Nevadans?

Hey fellow gardeners - Gurney's got part of my order wrong and sent me some asparagus instead of the onion sets they were supposed to send. I called them and they are re-shipping the onions so that's cool. But I can't eat asparagus so I was wondering if anyone would like to trade some seeds for some asparagus? I forgot to order cauliflower and cantaloupe but am open to other suggestions...

I'm busy trying to finish my garden prep, too. The weather is beautiful here so that's a big plus! Hey thanks for the 411 on the River School Farm Elizabeth. I'd love to go by and check it out.

So sad you have to give up your chickens chickee! I wish you all the best.

Candy - I sent you a pm earlier. Just let me know.

Kim, I hope you are feeling much better and if not then I pray you do soon.

The River City place is where I used to buy my eggs before getting my chickens. They are the greatest people on this planet. They also have movie nights in the Summer. Look them up, I know they have a website and it has their schedule for their events and such.

I took the chicks outside in batches of 6 this afternoon. I set up a makeshift pen on the outside of the run but right next to it so the big girls could take a peek. they were very curious and wanted to get a good look at the little peeps. I did the wyandotte chicks first since they are the friendliest and easiest to grab. splash promptly flew right out so I had to quickly find something to put over the top. the ameraucanas and marans are all pretty shy still but they did enjoy their time pecking around on the ground. i can see some golden color coming into the feathers on the GC Marans pullet. Time to get some more work done.

Due to mother and MILs health deteriorating (my husband and I are their sole care givers) I am cutting way back on my flock. Here is a collage picture of what I have available. If you are interested please PM me for details and prices. (Polish hen is not available)

3 BLRW hens, 3 lavenderAmeraucana hens, 1 black split Ameraucana hen, 3 buff x wheaten Ameraucana pullets, 1 EE hen, 1 BLRW rooster, 2 bantam Polish roosters, 2 EE roosters.
Your birds are gorgeous. I'm also full up with all the chicks but I'm sure you can find good homes for them. It's a big job to be a care giver and I wish you lots of strength for that.

Very sorry to hear about your folks and your chickens too. I know what you're going through.

Well, we ended up with only the 2 ducks. Harmony is healing away, though her lower bill is growing faster which I figured would happen. I'm watching her carefully. Everyone is being very nice to her. My SIL gave my MIL some money and said she was very sorry for her little tiny dog going after Harmony. It was so fast there was not way anyone could have stopped him. John was holding her on the couch and my SIL told him he better move or Teddy will jump up and get her. He moved so fast and there wasn't another incident.

My kids left this morning to go home. It was the best visit we've had in a very long time.

I'm setting eggs again but I'm also trying to figure out how to correct the humidity for this next batch. I couldn't get the humidity where it needed to be even though I had 2 sponges, all the wells filled to the brim and a bowl of water full. The ducks needed the humidity much higher then it would go. The only thing I could think the problem is was the fan.

glad the harmony is healing and that you had a good visit with your kids. Hopefully you'll figure out the solution for the humidity issue. at least you know Harmony and Mo are have strong, fit genes to survive!

I'm happy to hear your visit was a success Sheryl! I love it when family comes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Harmony!

I've shown the pictures to several people and we all agree - they are too cute!

I was just looking at your sig line Elizabeth, and some quick math says you've got 37 chickens right now!?!

How big did you say your yard is?

Ok, well I got garden #1 fenced off from the chickens, and boy is Original whining about it! The peas are planted on the other side of the chicken wire.

Garden #2 tilled... the soil is so-so... loose, but needs organic matter really really badly. Good thing I have several manure sources. I hope to plant the peas there tomorrow, with a little help from the super duper cheap potting soil to mix with the existing dirt.

Garden #3 is planned out, and I hope to plant the peas there on Wednesday.

No staining or putting up trim today, but I can still plant spinach tonight. And my husband ordered me some exotic pepper seeds that came today, so I can start those. If anyone wants some of these seedlings, let me know... but they'll probably need to be container plants. A lot of them are long-season. I have purple jalapeno, fatali, chicken heart, hot cow horn, and peter (because my husband has a warped sense of humor.)

Ron, I'd take you up on your offer for asparagus, but I don't know where I'd put another perennial right now. I rotate everything around so much for the annuals.

Big enough, Ron.

About half of the chicks are roosters, anyway. of course more are coming in April.

I'll figure it out. Missy was smart and didn't put the numbers of chicks in her signature but her count is creeping up too!

32 on the property right now. I expect to keep 5 or 6 of the chicks I have here, bringing that down to 15/16... until mid-April, when the Ideal order gets here.

Good morning, everyone! I have a morning client, then I'm hoping to get a lot of stuff done, if the wind cooperates. My poor seedlings... I need to build my greenhouse to keep them out of the wind, but lately it's been too windy to build a greenhouse! So they go out front, barricaded by the lids to their little peat pot boxes, in an area that gets part shade. Today I also have to wire the chickens out of the garden... they're going to be ticked, especially since the dirt is nice and turned, and they've been in worm/dust bath heaven. Putting the trim on the chicken coop, putting more stain on the fence, planting the peas and spinach, rototilling garden #2... it's on the list, but I guess the weather will decide what happens.

I'll have my super duper manpower back in a week, but I want to really impress him with all the stuff I've gotten done! He's one of those really awesome type of men who likes a super dynamic awesome booty-kicking woman.

Does anyone have big plans for today?

*I think most secure men do. It's the insecure and inadequate ones that want a wimpy woman that can't think for herself. Most guys aren't that insecure. At least most of the guys I know.

*We just went to my Dad's retirement complex to sing today. Had a great crowd. Really wonderful group that appreciated the performance very much.

Got the rest of my supplies for the cold frames so we can put those together tomorrow if the rain holds off. I am super excited about that. Will get pics.

You and Elizabeth sound super busy!

Chickee I'm so sorry about your mom and MIL. Got to be hard when it's both of them. I know it's a lot of work. I hope things get better for you.

I posted on your AM ad. I can take 2 of the AMs if I can get them here somehow.

Nice choice Kim! Her lavender Ams are gorgeous! Candy so sorry to hear about your MIL and your Mom!!!

Me me me!!! I want some asparagus!!! I even have some of the cantaloupe seeds you like so much!

Every time I look at the asparagus I almost order it. Now I'm glad I waited. I also have a bunch of other stuff like seeds for leeks (if you like onions you'll love leeks!), lettuce mixes, spinach, peas (the kind that you throw in salads, pod and all), corn (the variety you recommended) and a few extra tater pieces (well they will be in pieces and setting out to dry on Monday). I should put the asparagus in right away. It likes cold weather. It's one of the first things up, sometimes with snow still on the ground.
