Nevadans?

for your hatch, Lacey.

My marans are starting to feather out like the one on the bottom right! Nothing like the one in the far corner, though. And I'm still confused on who's a rooster and who's not, but hopefully there's at least 1 pullet in there.

Looks like you might have pullets, then. The pullets are the darker ones like the one on the bottom right. the other one I have with more white is a cockerel, pretty sure about that based on what I read.

Ok these are horrible cell phone pics and the chicks might still be too young to tell, but does anyone have a guess on the gender of these two? I was thinking both pullets, but now the feathers are gold on the tips and blue further down the shaft.

I might just have to wait until my nicer camera comes home.

This is the one that has blue further down the shaft.

On this one, the neck feathers are starting to grow in a darker brown, not pure gold.

They are looking like pullets to me.

Hey everyone!
I've got an Ameracauna Rooster that has to find a new home SOON! If my neighbors turn me in for a crowing rooster I may lose all my birds! Does anyone need this handsome boy?? or have any suggestions??? I think I can take him to one of the feed stores - but I worry what they do with them... I'd much rather have him go to a real home! I posted his picture a few weeks ago but thot I'd try again just in case! :) Thanks!
Hope you find a home for him. Sorry I can't help you out. Too far away and I have a brooder with 8-9 cockerels in it myself.

Thanks Missy but I need a wheaten not B/W or buff x wheaten. My trio are all wheaten. Besides those 2 you showed pics of both look like girls to me.

Sunny, I have a couple extra wheaten rooster chicks available that are from the same hatch you got from me. They are cute and friendly

Sorry, not the best picture. Their color is prettier in person.

That guy with the green legs won't work but that guy in the front looks very handsome. Hate to go over the hill for one roo though. Maybe I could pick him up when you get back from Florida and have my buff x wheatens hatched? How much do you want for him?

Well guys, bad incubator news. I had a heat surge yesterday. I left at 4 in the morning, got back at about three in the afternoon, and the temp was between 101 and 102. And today is lockdown. It really sucks, because although I didnt know thier personalities and stuff, I watched their little hearts beating at 6 days, and watched them moving around at 12, I now I dont know if any of them made it, and are going to hatch. I feel like I just killed 38 chicks.

I hope some of them still hatch.
On the other hand, on Saturday when we went to Green's, I bought two white cochins and two Welsummers, which are adorable, but have kinda added to the suckiness of the situation.

About hormones and stuff in food, you all might want to read "Skinny (somthing that rhymes with 'witch' and I cant say on BYC)" It was a diet book my mom was reading, and she told me I might be interested in it. So I read it last week, and its not really a diet book, it's just a book that grosses you out so much about the FDA that you dont really want to eat ever agian. Needless to say, I dont know how biased it might be, but I will not be eating any meat that doesnt come from my yard. And Im eating oranic everything until I can grow my own. Which is probably better anyway. And, on the upside, organic food is really easy to find in Nevada.

Lacey unless they were already pipping (at that time spikes are very bad) 102 is nothing. A hen's temps get up to 102 so I bet most of them made it just fine! I had a spike of 106 on the hatch before last and I have 8 adorable babies out of that hatch! Now 106 temps that late would have been disastrous but 102? No big deal.

And yes, there are a lot of things I won't eat that I haven't grown myself unless I can buy organic. Most baked goods that are sold I won't eat either. If you start reading up on that then look out too. The stuff they let them put into baked goods is really scary and studies have shown that even small amounts of this stuff is really bad for us yet they are loading us full of this crud! You'll have to start baking to enjoy bread and baked goods again. On the plus side my baked goods rock!!! OK that wasn't very modest was it?

I want to start doing some artisan breads though. I've made bread before and I'm known in my family for my fruit breads, cakes, cookies and my pastries but I've never done the artisan thing and now I want to try.

Actually I'm seeing partially hydrogenated crap show up in all kinds of stuff these days! Like frozen foods!!! You are freezing it! Why do you need to load it down with that junk? I would think the freezing process would be sufficient to preserve the food! Now I don't have a problem with the non synthetic trans fats that are found in some foods naturally. It's the processed, chemical stuff I avoid like the plague. I also avoid palm kernal and soy bean oils and others like that. Give me regular old butter any day!!! It's much better for you and it tastes a whole lot better!

Sunny, both their legs are blue. It is the poor color quality of the picture. I went out to take another picture of them and my camera battery went dead

If you would like to post or send me a picture of your rooster chick I can pick one of my rooster chicks that looks the most like him. You can have him for free

Do you still want 5 buff x wheaten chicks or only four now that you have a pullet?
