Sunny, which brand game bird do you get at 1 Stop and how much is the 50lb bag?Lol I guess that means they are a good breed? I don't know much about penes except that these are another line of French birds (at least the gal said this variety is, which I can't even remember the name of right now) and they lay a dark egg. This is the only breed of dark egg layers I haven't tried before. I sure hope the eggs are nice and dark. They are much sweeter than my marans are. Not that the marans are flighty or mean but they are a bit standoffish.
I use game bird crumbles right now. It's a higher percentage of protein and cheaper. All flock is great too! $17-$20 still sounds crazy expensive to me.![]()
That's how I found the place I'm living right now - and it was "cheaper than the dirt"! Well, as cheap as the dirt anyway! It's like I got the house, huge garage, and barn for free!Broodiness is contagious. I had 6 trying to sit in 2 boxes. I had to break all of them.
Sunny I could better afford them if I could sell them. For some reason I can set up a sale and then they end up buying from one of 2 breeders or people they know. Very frustrating. I do without a lot just to feed kids and animals. I wish I could find a place that had much cheaper feed that was close by.
I'm going to be setting up a notice account with my daughter's RE office. Since whatever I can get has to be cheaper than the dirt it sits on, I need to get instant notices for what I think I can spend. Don't know if I'll even get one, but I have to try. With the new restrictions here, I already feel like I can't breath.
OK busy busy week. I think I'll try to sleep.

glad you did ok working. what a sight that must have been to see with 3 of them stacked up!Thankfully I did well at the store today. Worked 6 hours and came home and did my chores and, knocking on wood, I'm doing OK. Would be wonderful if I could go back for at least a day. I was feeling scary depressed...it's just not me.
When I went up to check on the chickens the broodie that I let out was in the hen house back where the chicks were hatched and scratching up a storm. She came running out when she saw me and I opened up the pen with the other broodie and chicks and she ran in and started cluckling. 3 of the chicks she hatched came running....isn't it funny they knew her? Then she went over the other broodie and pushed her way under her! It was SO funny, the other hen was completely on top of her and then one of the chicks jumped up on top of the other one! They were stacked 3 high!I got a picture but with the two hens being black you can't really tell what's going on, but the cutest thing. I was glad the broodie let her back in.![]()

Where do you buy your feed, Ron?Really? I buy feed that is packaged by A.L. Gilbert Co. You know, that huge feed place in Oakdale? I pay $13.99 for a 50lb. bag, and that's after it has been transported over the Sierra to Nevada! It's really good stuff, too. The scratch is even better than Purina, and not just by a little bit, either.
cute!
Hopefully you'll get lots of pullets in your next hatches! congrats on the wheaten pullet!Poor Linda!!! I have been following her situation also. My husband was just saying yesterday that I was lucky that my MIL likes the sounds of all my roosters since her part of the house is closest to the chicken pens. I know his uncle that lives across the creek from us has complained to my husband about my crowing roosters. I am so glad we are in the middle of 44 acres and I can do what I want!!
Seth, Any baby bunnies yet? I LOVE baby bunnies!! My friend in Michigan that sent me the bantam buff Brahma eggs has been raising and showing rabbits for 30 years! She also judged rabbits at the shows. She is big time into showing her rabbits and has a BIG barn full of them. She has the Holland Lops. I told her if she ever comes out to California for a rabbit show she MUST bring some babies for me! Oh, and I candled the BBB eggs last night and of the 10 she sent, I tossed one with a blood ring and ALL of the other 9 BBB and 1 bantam Mille Fleur Cochin eggs are growing! Plus all 4 of my bantam Polish eggs I put in with them are growing
Keep your fingers crossed for lots of girls!![]()
Missy, Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well! Hope your doctor figures out what is going on and you get to feeling better soon!! That is also scary that those chicks at the feed store you go to had the same thing going on as your chicks!!!That is where it must of come from!! I should have made that bet with you on the only wheaten chick I hatched, because it is a pullet!![]()
