I would be sooooo down for an engagement party! ESPECIALLY if there is going to be homemade ice cream! Im not fussy though, ill let ron and tyler pick, hahahaha

Aubrey, that ring is amazing! What a well thought out, personalized design. A work of art to wear everyday! Mark has obviously been planning this for a long time!
Your trip sounds incredible! What a fun and educational itinerary!
How's your mom doing?
Ron, I was born and spent my first 9 years in Whittier. I return a couple of times a year to visit my cousins and my 100 year old granny. She passed away in March. I hope we still get together without the excuse of seeing my granny.
The traffic down there is horrible although I still think the Bay Area has worse traffic! Nothing worse then sitting in traffic!

Thank you!!!! Mom is doing well! She is having a really strange allergic reaction to the bandages they had on her but other than that she gets to eat BLENDED foods now! (yum!) so shes excited about that haha

sorry guys, i am the only person on this site that still doesnt know how to do multi-quotes, haha

Sweet! Can you PM me instructions on how to get there?

The chicks went outside today. I wanted to put them in the mini-coop, but I have too many clients to see how they do with the larger ameraucana pullets. I'm kind of worried about the silkie.

Clockwise from top: my black minorca, with the RIR right below her. The exchequer leghorn in the top right corner. Then the brahma pullet. The cream brabanter is by the waterer, staring at us. Then the blue silkie, then the speckled sussex. And the top left corner is the turken. I'm so happy with the color of her feathers! The blue cochin is kind of a ball of fluff behind the RIR.

Another shot, with a lot of chicken butts. And Tikka the wyandotte is there, trying to fulfill her purpose of picking on anyone smaller than her.

Missy!!! I am in LOVE with your barbanter!!!

Quote: Sure I'll pm it to you right now.

Cute pics! Why are you worried about your silkie?
Quote: A very smart decision!!! Unfortunately I have seen traffic at all times of the night in the Bay Area too. Especially 101 and especially heading to or from the city. IDK what it is about that freeway but it seems to have traffic all the time! Of course it could be only when I'm trying to get somewhere.

I shouldn't say it is worse though. I have been stuck in some horrific traffic jams in LA too. The worst I've ever been in though is New York. There is a reason a lot of folks ride the subway. You don't go anywhere in a car fast. I can't imagine trying to drive there. Seriously! Nothing moves! It's like watching water boil! Nothing happens until you look away then you get excited cause you've started to move and of course you stop again. For 10 minutes you can sit there not moving and everyone is honking when there is no where to go!

I've only been there once but I think that was enough for me. The folks were a lot nicer than I expected though.
Quote: I'm 51. I sort of remember something about a fire but maybe more from others talking about it, I was 5. But there was still lots of orange trees when I was there. I remember all the oil pumps on the way to the beach. They reminded me of dinosaurs!
Yea, you are only 2 years younger than me so that makes perfect sense. I was 7 when the fire came over the hill toward our house. We were told we were gonna have to evacuate so we had the car all packed and were waiting for the word but then they told us we didn't have to after all cause the wind had changed direction. Very scary to me as a little kid watching the fire come closer and closer.

LOL I thought they looked like huge dinosaurs too. I think all kids think that.

OK multiquotes worked a minute ago!!! Now I have to try and remember it all!

YES!!! Aubrey!!! Par-ty, Par-ty, Par-ty!!!

OK Tyler said as long as there are no weird flavors (so I assume no green tea and garlic ice cream) and Ron pulled back his vote at the last minute (well except to point out it is not peach season yet). Soooo ???

And I didn't mean to say I hate it down there. I just hate traffic. There are things I love about LA and there are things I love about the Bay Area! Cali is my home and I will always have a soft spot in my heart for both areas. My best memory, from when we lived there, was going to Balboa Island.
Back in those days (many many moons ago) it was safe to let your kids run off by themselves so my folks would get in line for the ferry (a process that can take hours on a busy day), give us kids some money and we would wander the shops looking for our favorite treats while my parents enjoyed some quiet time. I always got a chocolate covered banana! No nuts! They still thrill me to this day! Feels like a piece of my childhood every time I have one (which is not often enough!).

Thanks for the update on your Mom! I was wondering too and was waiting for you to answer Pam's post. Glad to hear she is doing well!

Did someone mention chocolate covered bananas? Such a pleasant memory for me, too, but on the Jersey coast.

Sunny, I must not have been paying attention, because I missed the part about you moving. Where are you going this time?

OH MY GOD. new craving!!!!

and geeze sunny! I saw you called today while i was working and wasnt able to answer...was it about the big move eh? eh? eh?????? im off saturday!

We went to Balboa the Christmas before last, for my granny's 99th. My aunt rented a bus because there's so many of us. Then we rented surreys and peddled all over, even took them on the ferry! We had a blast, just like when we were all kids! My aunt had a house there when we were kids so we spent a lot of time there. It's still a very safe feeling place.

I love how quick I can fly down to Southern CA and be with all the family.

That was my first purchase when we got on Balboa Island! The grandkids didn't understand why Mimi was rushing to get a banana. They soon understood! And rolled in nuts! Yum!

Sure I'll pm it to you right now.

Cute pics! Why are you worried about your silkie?

Because he's so small, and the ameraucanas are so big. The leghorn and brabanter are small as well, but they can fly up to the second level of the mini-coop if they're getting picked on. But after watching the silkie tonight, I think he might be ok. Notice I'm saying "he." Tikka the wyandotte kept waiting until chicks got close to the sides of the cage, then she stuck her head in and pecked them. Bite-size the silkie was the only one who stood up to her. And when the girls lay down together to take a nap, he was up and alert, watching everything. Maybe he's just a really confident girl. I hope so.

Aubrey, I love my brabanter so much! She's SO friendly and not flighty, like a lot of white layers are. She'll be quite a flyer when she's grown up, so she'll stay in the enclosed coop or have clipped wings. We'll see if this neighborhood hawk relocates. A friend who works at the 7-11 says he's watched that hawk carry off cats.
