I think lil bedbug has spraddle leg
sad.png
she isn't interested in walking at all but she is peeping and is alert. Maannnn I do not want an indoor chick right now! Humph. Poor thing. We will see how she's feeling tomorrow
Hope she perks up and walks soon!

One of my bantam buff Brahma chicks in this last hatch looked the same and I was sure it had spraddle leg but after a couple of days the legs were normal :D   I will keep my fingers crossed that bedbug will do the same :fl

I sure hope so. Maybe she will be able to use them once she absorbs al of her yolk and her belly isn't so fat.

Is anyone else getting fewer eggs than they should be? I blame it on the heat. I mean, the last thing I want to do in this heat is anything I don't have to, so their egg makers probably are taking a break, as well. Today I took an ice pack and set it directly behind the little fan that's pointed at my broody. The downside of that? I kept finding other hens in the nesting box with her, just hanging out. But I didn't lose any more eggs today. I picked them up and they were HOT! But I just candled them, and the last blue cochin egg is still alive and moving! I'm amazed. I can't tell on the others (an EE and a frizzled cochin.) I hope the little blue cochin egg can last one more week.

I cut open a watermelon and took wedges out to the chickens and ducks. The dogs got jealous, but they decided they didn't want watermelon after tasting it. I'm glad to know there's one thing they disagree on. This morning, the drakes and the dogs had a little argument about the bowls of whey I had set out there. Nobody got hurt, but there was snapping. The dogs immediately got disciplined. They didn't touch the ducks, but I didn't want them to get away with aggression toward the poultry. But then I wonder... where do we draw the line? Is it ok for the drakes to bite the dogs' legs when they try to drink the whey, but not ok for the dogs to defend one of their bowls? It's an easy problem to work around... the birds don't get in the doggy door, so I can feed the dogs in the house.

The dogs eat the chicken food and they love the morning scratch grains. But my turken has developed a taste for dog food, and follows us when we go inside, politely asking for some. The dogs don't appreciate it. The turken only has the chance to get a bite or two before the dogs run them off. Gently, not even lifting a lip at her, but very insistent that it's their food.

My silkie roo hasn't started crowing yet, but I'm so nervous about when he will. Russ doesn't want to cull him when he hasn't done anything wrong, but what else do I do with him? The poor little boy needs a home.

so sorry about your bedbug ordeal, aubrey.  what a pain in so many ways!  at least you will be rid of it soon.  what a cute video!  my kids watched it with me and they loved it.  :clap

great photos, missy.  i like to see how your chicks from our joint order are coming along.  love that cream brabanter!

Got a giant brown speckled egg today.  I'm thinking maybe it's from the gcmarans (ok, I really need to get on the stick and finish naming my flock!) but it's lighter than her others have been.  Or it could be a welsummer.  that one is not going into the sales cartons.  I need to see what's in there!  Photos will come a little later of my new ameraucana egg and the giant egg.

Congrats on that eggie!!!

Don't fret! The last time we hit triple digits my eggs went from 12 a day to 1 or 2 a day. Once the temp went back to the 90s everything went back to normal. Today I only got about 8 and expect less tomorrow. It's just really stressful on their bodies to lay in the heat

She made it!!

(i promise this is a safe link...its a video on my photobucket of lil Bedbug hatching!)

Funny...the genetics calculator says that she should be blue like her mom, but she is white...Mr Pants has some strong genes i guess!!!
Oh that was soooo cute Aubrey! Can't wait to see what she (

My nephew had bedbugs. They fought them for a couple of months then realized they just had to move. They lived in an apartment and it did no good to get rid of them from their apartment - they just kept coming back from the neighbors. Luckily you live in a house so it shouldn't be too bad.

My girls' laying has been very erratic with the hot weather.

I wish I could take that little roo from you - he's adorable. But Poppy would do him in right away unfortunately.

T-storms have fired up over this way. My poor cat is hiding under my bed.

I hope they don't fizzle out before they come over here! The last time we had rain, I still had to water my garden, but it was a huge luxury to know I didn't have to get out there before 9am to do it! Of course, the chances of clouds dropping as much water as these gardens need in a day... yeah... well, you know.

My old dog was afraid of thunderstorms. She would go lie down in the centralmost portion of the house, the bathroom with no windows.

Elizabeth, have any of your Ideal ladies been checking out the nesting boxes? My sussex keeps going in there and nosing around, but her comb isn't that red yet.

And speaking of red combs... today while Sweet was sharing the nesting box with Sour (probably enjoying the ice fan,) I noticed that Sweet's face and comb are a lot redder than Sour's. Could that have anything to do with the fact that Sweet is currently laying, and Sour isn't?

I'm watching the flashes of lightning and enjoying that wonderful breeze headed our way. They should be here soon!

Here is the ameraucana egg on the left and the mondo egg on the far right.

Here's my harvest today. I had a few more tomatoes that I didn't get into the photo.

Chicharo has been playing with this pipe cleaner for the last few nights. He's so cute. he brings it over to me and meows for me to throw it for him.

My silkie roo (behind the speckled Sussex, Lucy, who's photobombing)

I made this roost outside in the run a few weeks ago. I can add some more roosts to it.

I will post a few photos of the other silkies. If you have any opinions on gender, please enlighten me! I'm guessing maybe 2 cockerels and 2 pullets in the other 4 but I'm not sure.
