Check out the weird purple egg we got today. I think it's a fluke, but it's pretty neat.

Missy, this reminded me of a video I once watched, I was laughing the whole time! Enjoy (skip to 1:00)The dogs eat the chicken food and they love the morning scratch grains. But my turken has developed a taste for dog food, and follows us when we go inside, politely asking for some. The dogs don't appreciate it. The turken only has the chance to get a bite or two before the dogs run them off. Gently, not even lifting a lip at her, but very insistent that it's their food.
My silkie roo hasn't started crowing yet, but I'm so nervous about when he will. Russ doesn't want to cull him when he hasn't done anything wrong, but what else do I do with him? The poor little boy needs a home.
Here is the ameraucana egg on the left and the mondo egg on the far right.
Here's my harvest today. I had a few more tomatoes that I didn't get into the photo.
Chicharo has been playing with this pipe cleaner for the last few nights. He's so cute. he brings it over to me and meows for me to throw it for him.
My silkie roo (behind the speckled Sussex, Lucy, who's photobombing)
I made this roost outside in the run a few weeks ago. I can add some more roosts to it.
I will post a few photos of the other silkies. If you have any opinions on gender, please enlighten me! I'm guessing maybe 2 cockerels and 2 pullets in the other 4 but I'm not sure.

I haven't integrated my ideals in with the whole crew yet so they haven't had a chance to get near the nest boxes. they are 16 weeks old, though, so could be getting close to laying. could be in a few weeks.I hope they don't fizzle out before they come over here! The last time we had rain, I still had to water my garden, but it was a huge luxury to know I didn't have to get out there before 9am to do it! Of course, the chances of clouds dropping as much water as these gardens need in a day... yeah... well, you know.![]()
My old dog was afraid of thunderstorms. She would go lie down in the centralmost portion of the house, the bathroom with no windows.
Elizabeth, have any of your Ideal ladies been checking out the nesting boxes? My sussex keeps going in there and nosing around, but her comb isn't that red yet.
And speaking of red combs... today while Sweet was sharing the nesting box with Sour (probably enjoying the ice fan,) I noticed that Sweet's face and comb are a lot redder than Sour's. Could that have anything to do with the fact that Sweet is currently laying, and Sour isn't?
I'm watching the flashes of lightning and enjoying that wonderful breeze headed our way. They should be here soon!
cool egg! Kim will love that.Check out the weird purple egg we got today. I think it's a fluke, but it's pretty neat.
that's what i've been thinking re: silkie genders. we'll see how it turns out. good idea putting the eggs in the photo with the harvest. I'll have to take another photo tomorrow. My garden has been doing okay. that is by my standards! i have some jalapenos and the purple peppers I got from you producing a few. my bell peppers are not doing well with the extreme heat. tomatoes are doing ok. most are rather small but that's okay. i have several small wonder spaghetti squash growing and one sugar pumpkin. various summer squash are doing pretty good. My broccoli bolted so I just fed the plants to the chicken. cabbage didn't amount to much so I've been picking off the leaves and feeding the chickens. So I'm thinking of just doing fall crops of those next year and not spring. It just got too hot. my spinach didn't do well either. I guess I don't have the right spot for it yet. one spot was too shady and the other too sunny. the snow peas did well so I should have planted more of those. next spring I will plant a lot. My kids love those. My redbor kale is doing well. It's so pretty. I planted bush beans and the plants are small but did blossom so we'll see.Hmmm I'm guessing cockerel, cockerel, pullet, pullet. The first is definitely a cockerel, and the last definitely a pullet.
Nice harvest!!! Someday, I'd love to see a pic of your day's harvest with eggs included. It makes a really pretty picture. How is your garden doing in the heat? With shade over the eggplants and tomatoes, mine is thriving surprisingly well.
