Nevadans?

It was but just barely. Like freshly closed. You could tell we yolk hadn't been fully absorbed though because her belly was abnormally large and she couldn't walk.
Oh yeah that's another thing, when mama calls them over for food the other chick comes running and pecks at the food. Bedbug however just stands there staring into space and I have yet to see her try to eat.

It almost like mama abandoned the egg because she knew something was up with this chick... Well I'm gonna do my best for her

Oh that's good to hear. I did know the yolk thing but I thought they ate as soon as they could, makes me feel better to know they sometimes prefer to wait. I did catch her drinking water a few times so that's really good. Thanks sooooo much for the advice and info

She may not be hungry yet. The yolk usually lasts for 3 days (I'm sure you know this) sometimes they are hungry early and sometimes they're not.
that's a good point. that's why they can ship the day old chicks.

hope she's doing okay.

My friend is interested in starting a flock, but wants pullets. She lives on a farm with many horses, so she has plenty of room. She wants about five or six pullets, but hasn't built a coop yet. She wants the hens only for eggs, and will probably need a rooster. Does anyone have any pullets that are good layers, particularly red stars or barred rocks?

I have andalusians

They're good layers. The roosters are sweet. And I'll be sending many of them to meet their maker if I can't sell some of them soon.

They're not egg machines but they will lay for many years compared to those that are bred to start producing eggs daily at a young age.

I will have to talk to her about, she may want a mixed flock? But she will probably want at least one :) Thanks

P.S. I might want one too!

Tolipgirl, the two little babies I have over in the garden coop at my house are from Lacy Blues. I'm very happy with them.

Just a couple quick pics illustrating the insanity of the beans I got from Sheryl. The greenbean pods that were 1" yesterday are 2" today. Tomorrow, Russ is getting green beans and hummus in his lunch tomorrow.

Actually, the beans on the far left are storebought yardlong beans, grown only up to Sahara's waist. Next over, the lighter green, are storebought Kentucky Wonder green beans. And the ones that climb all the way to the top of the pavilion? Yeah, those are from Sheryl. The Kentucky Wonders only reach the top of that white net. Everything above them are Sheryl's.
