Nevadans?

I have but I don't really anymore. I usually just do custom hatching for whatever somebody wants. I've hatched turkeys, pheasant, quail, and chickens probably approaching about a 1000 birds in the last couple of years. I like doing the hatching and have been pretty happy with the results even with shipped eggs. If you were closer I bet that you could talk you dad into one of these Ameraucana cockerels. I think that they will get pretty big. Good luck with the swans. Check craigslist for pond stuff, at least in Vegas they have some all of the time in the farm + garden section for cheaper than new.

vegaschick where did all those white tail feathers come from? Oh well, at least he has some now! I didn't get a picture of all of them but did you pick out one of the cockerels?

How are the chicks doing? No pics? Good luck on the eggs, I may have to get some from you if it goes well and you have extras.

Time for me to go to bed. Good night all.

Morning everyone, Mainly posting so my last post is not 3 pages back.

Laceynoele, I love the swans. The ones here on campus have babies also. And yes they can get mean when it comes to protecting them.

I got to see one of my uncles yesterday that I have not seen in 11 years. He has never come to Reno before and will not be here long so we are trying to pack in as much showing the place off as we can.

Hope everyone is well.

NevadaRon, he's gorgeous!!! It's all I can do to keep from jumping in the car right now and dashing over to pick him up! Are you going to get him? I'd grab him but my big gals would eat him for breakfast.

Ke-ben thanks for the pics, love those blue copper maran roos. The females look a lot like the pullets I got from Horsefeathers, which are a blue orpington/delaware cross. Actually the crosses I have are even bluer! They are beautiful girls!

Vegaschick, what does BICM stand for? He's magnificent!

Penturner glad you took the time to say hi! Enjoy your Uncle.

oh gosh i think that roo is absolutely gorgeous. i love those colors together. he would be a beautiful boyfriend for pearl, i wish i could take him. i saw a couple of days ago a "silkie family" for really cheap and it looks like someone scooped up the mommy and the babies but couldnt take the roo. how sad

Hello, how is everyone today? Another hot, humid one here and judging by egg output the hens aren't liking it much.

The pic on the hen does not show it real well but the hackle/head feathers are darker with the signature rust/copper streaking and the body does look like your crosses and these blues that I have. They are very cool looking birds. I did forget to add Empordanesas to my wish list.

I probably shouldn't answer for vegaschick but it's BlCM as in blue copper marans, not BI. That is one-eyed Jack, because from birth until about the time they took him, he never opened one eye. She will have to give us an update on that but he is a friendly roo. Jack is a BlCM but not with the best of coloring, although he hatched from a really dark egg so he should throw some nice egg coloring in the mix. I kept the BCM roo because I had hens for him and you can't keep them all, ya know.

lol the swans are way mean now. One attacked my dad this morning and had a go at me last night. The good news? They move really slow on land. The bad news? The jerks team up on you.
Hi everyone! How many people have and hatch out marans on here close to reno? I was thinking about buying some later on.

Thanks ke-ben. That makes more sense.

I care more about egg color than anything else. Do the blues lay as dark an egg as the blacks? I have 4 black copper marans pullets that should start laying any day now. Very anxious to see what color eggs they lay. I was on the marans thread but they are more concerned with SQ than egg color and I'm all about the eggs!

Laceynoelle, that sounds more like what I've experienced from swans. Beautiful birds but meee-eean!

Wow! You all are an active bunch! I only log on once a day and typically have to read back a few pages to catch up! I kind of find it funny that the Nevada thread is always in the top 5 for activity. Most people don't associate our great state with agriculture and livestock.

I love this site and enjoy learning about chickens. That photo of a silkie was the first I've seen. I've read about them but didn't know what they looked like! The ornamental chickens aren't that appealing to me but that's the great thing about chickens...there's a breed for everyone (kind of like dogs)!

I have to share a quick story. We have two chicks; Henrietta and Virginia. I think that they are about 4 weeks old now, but not sure. Anyway, I typically let them run in the yard for about 30 minutes when I get home from work. They follow me around, chase bugs, hang out, sit on my lap, so on... I worked late last night and didn't get any quality time with my "girls". As my wife and I climbed into bed, the girls began to make a real ruckus. My wife made two attempts to settle them down. She talked gently to them and petted them. They were still squawking. I got up, held each for a few minutes, pet them, and told them it was time for bed. They immediately settled down and fell asleep! I spend the most time with them, so they must have bonded to me. My wife teased me for being their "Mother Hen". Ha!

BoulderCityFoul, Sweet story. My Roosters will make a fuss if I don't talk to them. They are very much just like cats and dogs. they want their attention and it is obvious that they get attached to certain people. A couple of our chicks have gotten attached to my oldest daughter. Problem is they have short memories so you have to spend time with them regularly.
