vegaschick I have added a link to the LV thread and member, breeder, feed store... page to the bottom of the NV member page. Folks pop on over to say "hi" on the LV thread as well. It's a great way to support our neighbors to the south of us!
vegaschick is trying to create some of the same resources in the LV area that we in the northwest have had so much success in and I applaude her efforts.
Thanks so much! I do hope to create a sort of resource one-stop shop for the southern part of the state. The place I like to buy feed isn't even in LV, but in Cedar City, UT. Love CAL's Ranch! I need to list that for others who may have access.
To be fair I would like to post links to pages with info from all over NV on one main page. I love the idea of posting events, local feed stores, breeders (we can post email addresses and breeds available but no prices etc. Stuff like that must appear in the "for sale" pages of BYC).
Kim has done something similar on the CA thread and it is a huge success! This is a great resource for many of us Nevadans as well since CA is an easy trip for most of us on here. I am fine with listing neighboring state's thread links as well. Kim has done this for us on her CA thread.
I must admit that I looked at hers to get ideas for mine. I just need lots more contributors! You do a great job Kim!
I would like to have different pages for different regions if there is an interest. Since vegaschick has already done so much work on the LV pages and it is so much easier to just post a link to these pages, than it is to try and gather info ourselves, what I will do is add a link to any page that anyone else creates for these purposes on the main NV page. I won't try to create new pages myself but I will link to them and, hopefully, organize a new main page with all the links in a more readable fashion (suggestions welcome).
Love this idea! It would be seriously cool to have a page focused on gardening methods for our areas too with all the great info shared on this thread...I think I remember reading that some of you have been keeping track of Missy and Companies nuggets of gardening goodness, right? Cut and paste is soooooo easy! (hint, hint!)
The link to our existing member page can be found in post one of this thread but I warn you it needs help. For this new idea to work I need to change the link to a main page and from there we can post links to the member page and anything else we wish. This thread has expanded beyond my wildest dreams and it is time to spread the wealth so that all Nevadans can benefit from their local resources.
BTW any info you wish linked or posted on the main page (like a breeder page and feed store etc page for us northerners too) must be posted here first exactly as you want it listed on the main page. I will not try to do it all myself and I couldn't if I wanted to. But I can copy and paste with the best of 'em.
So shoot me your suggestions and info and links. Let's make this thread really work now!!!

Yummy!!!
So... aren't you guys supposed to be hotter and drier than us? From what I understand from my LV friends, you guys have gotten a LOT more rain than we have this year.
I had the television on and was building yet another hoop coop, but came in to sit for a few minutes. The flooding was all over the tv. How are things today? The said at least 1000 people had lost power. I need to get on FB and see how my cousins and their families are doing. Not sure they are even near the flood zone though. That was right down town right?
Whew, that's nice to hear. I often get accused of child abuse because of the amount of work I expect my kids to do. You know, pitching in and pulling their fair share and stuff. Maybe I'm just expecting too much of them for the area we live in. Parents here really don't expect their kids to do much. Seriously.
Sunny, I'd love to help with the boards. I do have to admit to being a bit of a board xenophobe, though. I was invited to join the N. Cal board almost a year ago, and I still haven't gone over. Hopefully the Vegas peeps won't abandon us for good, and will still consider themselves part of this board!
I know that I, for one, do consider myself part of this thread, I just need local resources. You all are too entertaining and informative!
Sheryl, how frustrating! I consider both dairy and eggs to be important parts of our diet. Not too little, not too much, and use the right kind, like just about everything else. I wonder if the whole egg thing has even been studied on duck eggs before making that recommendation.
Kim, $15 for 1.75L is really good! Especially since I'll be making my batches in about 8oz or so. And Sunny, a tangerine extract made with a citron liqueur sounds amazing! Imagine the sorbet it could go into! I have to go buy a bunch of lemons soon for the plum chutney, so maybe I'll spring for a bottom shelf bottle, then I'll do lemon and vanilla extracts at the same time.
LOL! Henderson?....OF COURSE!!! (sorry, couldn't help it!)LOL! So what is Henderson (south of Las Vegas)? Baja Nevada???
Cool! I'll need it!
It all sounds good! Even Kim's Kahlua sounds wonderful. I am such a wuss when it comes to alcohol though that I have a bottle of Kahlua here that is almost 10 years old and is still over half full. lol I use it for a flourless chocolate cake that Steve adores and that is about it. I won't even eat pasta sauce if it has wine in it. So it's not the alcohol that bothers me it's the taste alone. My palate never matured.
That's why if Steve and I ever open that Inn and gardens we have been dreaming of for so long we are going to depend on Pam to supply all of our wine needs. haha She will have to give us a little script with the wines though or we will have no idea how to describe them.
Hey Kim thanks! I thought I would just put a link to your page in our page telling folks they can find breeders, etc there.
Vegaschick that Cal thread would be a great resource for you too since there are quite a few So Cal breeders listed there.
Very sweet of you to ask Bella. I have been wondering the same thing after reading the news. What a mess! When vegaschick talked about the school being flooded I imagined this to be a very localized thing but it is a serious flood!!!
Good idea!
BTW, welcome to the NV thread!![]()
Hahaha! You can answer that better than we can. lol
Yes!!! Everybody send your favorite feed store info to Ron and he will pin it to a map we can link on our NV pages. Don't forget to include the address and the ph number. We can also link supply stores (like I love to stop by Twin City Surplus for a lot of my chicken supplies).
Twin City Surplus
1675 E 4th St, Reno, NV 89512
(775) 323-5630
Hey you've surely got someone on your thread that could help out with that!
We will put it on the new pages. Kim can we get a link to the page here? My modem was down most of the day so I don't have much time for BYC tonight.
Steve and I have seen every episode. Most of them we've seen more than once.
That link just gives me an error code. If you have a specific question you would like to post here then maybe we can help.
Here's hoping all you Nevadans are faring well with your rain storms. Let us know how you are!
Bella
have you tried applesauce on pancakes? We have a delicious recipe for pancakes using whole wheat flour, oatmeal, and a few other things. My dad and my brother put syrup on them, the the applesauce is ten times better.
Uh-oh Ron, is this a Open Mouth Insert Foot sorta thingy here! I think you would be good with this part? Then we need a map, or at least a link to one, on the page. Like a Google Map with the little pins that mark where everything is. Uh-oh - am I inadvertently volunteering to make something like that happen?![]()
LOL I have X-Files in the #1 position on my Netflix instant queue!![]()
Are you on DSL? I have a DSL modem from my last house that I had bought (not leased) and now have no use for it.
?really sorry to highjack this thread but i really need help fast! pleeeeeeaaaaaaassssseeee look at my thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/707915/i-need-help-asap-please\
I was having serious stomach issues after getting IV antibiotics for four days in the hospital. I got some probiotics - from an internet place - Dr. Natura - they are much better than the "brand name" ones in the store. 4 billion spores per pill of eight different strains. The gastroenterologist I went to was amazed that it worked - she was sure I would have to undergo a treatment that I won't even describe here in case anyone is eating. They sell cleansing kits and they work wonders - just read some of the testimonials, I can tell you from experience that it really works!
SWEEEET X2!Whoa! X-files buddies!!!!! Sweeeeeeet!!!!!!
Is u-verse dsl? I have no clue. It is what came with our cable. We got it all as a big package until we figured out how much of a waste of money cable was and just canceled it and kept the wireless Internet. We called them today to ask where the modem was because go figure my phone barely works inside my house (IN THE MIDDLE OF TOWN?!?). Anyway the lady said that whoever filled out the work order last week didn't complete it and it never got sent! Grrr! People just do not care anymore do they? Well any way before I started ranting I was gonna say thanks for the offer but ours should be here Friday LOL
Awesome! Netflix has 9 seasons and I had just finished episode 1 of season 1 when our Internet went out. I've got a LOOOOONG ways to go, hahaha!
I can do that. I write tasting notes every week for our customers and employees. I'll teach you the keywords so it sounds like you know what your talking about!BTW, I'm not a fan of food cooked in wine either, I'd much rather drink it while I'm cooking then cook with it.![]()
OMG!!!!!!!!!! Why didn't I think of that????? I need a map. I need to get help with a map. During Mahonri's hatches I've alway had to have help even getting placed on the map!
I think the map idea is awesome...I gotta do that for the LV thread too. Ron, could you pm me how to do that? Do you use GoogleEarth or GoogleMaps or what?
Sheryl that Align is one of the brand name products I was saying is worthless. It only has 2 billion spores per pill and 4 different strains - and it's more expensive than Dr. Natura, too! My gastroenterologist had suggested it, too, but it didn't help me.Uh-oh Ron, is this a Open Mouth Insert Foot sorta thingy here! I think you would be good with this part?
I love the X-Files too and I really loved Heroes! I so miss Heroes!
Perhaps this will help me, I had an issue with not having enough good bacteria in that area. Several studies are claiming people with NASH have a lot of bad bacteria there and they don't know if it's a side effect of the disease or if the bacteria is causing the NASH. Very interesting. My doctor gave me align but it didn't work for me at all.
SWEEEET X2!
I haven't watched any past seasons after the shows stop on TV. But I don't watch a lot of TV or movies either.
Thanks Kim!Sunny the link would be great to add.
Ron here ya go https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/california-thread-members-list-and-helpful-information
There are things I'm going to set up different when I get a chance.
I just realized I don't have time to say anything about this right now. I'll be back.I've had pear butter on pancakes but I only eat pancakes once a year or less. I would love your recipe with the whole wheat flour and oatmeal that sounds really good. My recipe calls for whole wheat with apf and I can't really eat much apf.

I've never liked cooking with wine either, it spoils both the wine and the food in my opinion.
Missy, my doctor was looking at studies being done in Asia. I looked online and there are tons of claims all over the place about alkaline foods being better at fighting cancer cells but it's only certain ones like the ones I'm at risk of getting. My doctor only suggests things that are being studied. He has a lot of faith is study groups. It's why he wanted me to go to a study group about 4 years at UCSF but I refused because it was a 6 month study and I couldn't be away from here that long. He's always suggesting I need to be studied because of how rare my medical issues are. I'm being attacked all over.
Okay, this is my diet for most of the days now. I do get to eat more than I've ever eaten before but with all the miles I walk everyday and the foods I eat you would think I would only weigh 90 pounds:
Yesterday's total food intake:
6 ounces unsalted almonds
1-1/2 carrots
9-1/4" slices cucumbers
2 pieces cauliflower
4 small black olives
6 cherry tomatoes
3-1" cubes pepper jack cheese
1-1/2 cup cooked green beans
Today's total food intake:
10 red grapes
2 eggs poached
1 ounce unsalted almonds
1 carrot
6-1/4" slices cucumbers
4 small black olives
2 slices cheese
4 pieces broccoli
5 mini whole grain cocktail crackers
I'm so stuffed right now I can't place anything in there. I do weigh every morning and again every night and I must keep a record. Now I know it's not just weight he needs to look at. Part of my disease causes swelling either in the legs or abdomen. I have swelling in the abdomen and it goes up and down drastically every month.
I'm running around all day long. I walk 1/2 mile from my car to my office. I don't sit at my desk unless I must make room reservations, I'm on the floor from the time I start until the time I must go home. I don't take lunch breaks at all. I snack when needed, mostly when my sugar drops. Today, I sure was starting to crave salt so I had some crackers but I don't usually eat much grains because it's so hard on me.
Hey NV, I have a friend broke down in Fallen NV. Can anyone suggest where he should get help? He's a retired Fire Fighter (Chief) coming back from Burning Man! The truck is spewing oil.
His nickname is Chicken Bone!![]()
