Nevadans?

Mine is a Northern Catalpa. It has been here as long as the house has (30 years). It obviously is having no problems with the winters here in Reno. Genny you have seen this tree. It's the one in the front yard. It is half again taller than my 2 story house. I was doing some research on the Catalpa and it apparently will grow to 10' in 6 years and 20' in 10 years. It takes forever to leaf out in spring but this actually protects it really well from late frosts. It also means the tree blooms late which gives you flowers in summer when most everything else is done blooming. It will take 5-6 years though for it to mature and bloom.

If you are allergic to tree pollen be sure to plant this tree further out in your landscape. The pollen is really bad on my allergies but, as I mentioned, the pollen is released in just a couple of weeks so it is fine the rest of the year. It still has flowers right now but no more pollen.

Kathy those ducklings are adorable!!!

Sunny, I got the tree planted in my front yard where it will shade the porch. I had to dig up a fair spot of grass or it would be lost in it, lol.
Thanks for saving it for us. My daughter is still telling everyone how shocked she was with your chickens and how big they are.

HorseFeatherz was asking why they were so small.

My RIRs and sex-links are not nearly as large as they should be. 'Course next to seramas...

Well my orps are just so big that I think all birds should be 8-12 pounds (DH calls them turklets). My Bama birds are growing out now, and they make my birds look and feel small.

Penturner I bet even my little MF Cochins seem large compared to your teacup birds

Have been checking in on my neighbor all thru the day and will be for the next couple days, it is not just me watching out for her, our little neighborhood is all taking care of her. She is my first NV friend. She rolled her SUV on Red Rock Road coming home last night, just about a mile, mile and ½ before home. I heard the accident and could see the rolled vehicle from my place but did not know it was her until later. REMSA chopper was sent out and she refused (the ride is ridiculously expensive) and just went in by ambulance. Luckily she is remarkably ok – airbags and seatbelt saved her life.

Please, everyone drive careful. If a dog is in your way, hit the dang thing, do not swerve to avoid the dog.

Horsefeatherz, let your friend know that many are thinking of her. Grateful she is okay. I agree, I like dogs but they are not worth getting killed over.
As for your big birds. Maybe one day my daughter will be able to see some of them. We did see some really big ones at the swap that was out that way a couple weeks ago. I think it was a little different for her when they where running around her feet. As for ours, I have taken to calling them "chicken nuggets".
