I rarely do a filling anyymore unless it's ordered or for something special. Then again I have abroken oven, so none at home and since I'm not real into eating cakes, I haven't made many since Bill died. He'd show up with a Starbucks mocha for me at 1am and 10 minutes later ask if I felt like baking. Ahhhh NO. But I usually did it anyway. LOL I don't sculpt anymore, but used to do that too. I was a very bored child and just wanted to learn everything. Top that with being told I'd only live to be 16 at the most and I thought I better learn as much as a could. I have a big kiln in my garage. Buried. A friend gave it to me before we moved out here and I don't have space to fire it up, but someday! I have some cool molds too. Some as old as from the 50s. I need a small table top one for jewelry. Don't see that coming any time soon. I was bidding on one when Bill died and had to contact the seller and retract my bid.

If that cupcake shop is still open, perhaps you could suggest fillings?
That is the first thing I asked when I walked in. What fillings do you have? The worker there said that a lot of folks have suggested this to the owner but she doesn't think it's important. I haven't been back since so it doesn't bother me if she can't step it up a notch but she'll be wondering why her business is failing in a year. Plus the cupcakes are super expensive!!! For that price people are expecting a lot. It's too bad but that seems to be a common theme here in Reno. Business owners think that just OK or so so is good enough.
Sunny, they're beautiful! I'm impressed with their color. Looks pretty dark to me. Is the green from my girls? Who's laying the blue?
Yep the green ones are from your girls, the blue ones are from Candy's girls, the med brown ones are from Kim's girls. The polish have not laid anything yet. The marans eggs aren't bad but they aren't great either. Since I am concentrating on color first I expect to have some really nice dark layers in a couple of years. Well a gal can hope anyway. :)
Well, if they stay broody after moving them you're in! The girls will take it from there.
Aubrey I agree on the cake. We spent so much on my daughters cake and barely had time to cut it. I would have done a small cake for cutting if you want the tradition but serve cupcakes so its not another job and huge expense. Although I did have people who asked if we were going to cut the cake because they wanted to go. Evidently they just came for cake.
Seriously! People do things like this these days! Has everyone forgotten basic manners? "Uh, are you gonna cut the cake soon so we can leave?" BAD form!!! And the things I see people wear to a wedding! Did no one ever teach these folks that the wedding is about the bride and groom? Jeez some folks gotta be the center of attention at all times! OK, sorry, rant over.

I've done way too many weddings I think. Between friends, family, being a florist and performing at weddings... I think I've seen it all!

Having a kiln would be awesome!!! I've never used molds. I've sculpted stone, clay and done the lost wax thing for bronzes though. I really love to sculpt but haven't done it in awhile. It's awfully space and time consumptive (is that a word?). Would soooo love to get into it again if I had the space and money. Lost wax was my favorite! Anyone here have a spare crucible laying around?

Maybe those people just wanted to witness the tradition?

Maybe I'm hard about this sort of thing but asking when the bride and groom are gonna cut the cake is one thing. Saying "When are they gonna cut the cake? We want to leave." is something entirely different. If you have to leave, make your apologies and leave. To ask someone to change the flow of the event so that you can hurry up and get out of there is just plain rude. They may not have said "Hurry up and cut the dang cake" but that is what they are inferring by saying that.

Sounds like we have a more in common Sunny. I wish I hadn't lost every pic for the first half of my life. My art college submitted a lot of my items to galleries in Oakland and Berkeley, waaaaaaayyyyyy back. LOL And I loved Lost Wax too!!!!! Used it for silver! Yup, lots of space. I thought I'd be somewhere with another studio by now. This place is so tiny, I can't find space to color with Makayla.

LOL! I know! I thought for sure I'd have a house with an artist's loft by now! Actually I thought by 35 I'd have it, Oh well. The only shows I've ever displayed at were against my better judgement and I ended up selling everything I'd ever made that I loved!!!

I know that's supposed to be the goal for most artists but I hated selling stuff that I loved. I was a poor college student at the time, sick of Top Ramen and some of these people are VERY insistent when they want something. I still miss my bronzes so much it hurts. I'll never find a place with a crucible again so I can pour. And the foundries leave everything with this too perfect finish. Nothing looks like it was handmade when you send them there. They all look like they came out of molds.

I don't think anyone will be in a big hurry to leave OUR wedding
