Nevadans?

I honestly don't think we're gonna do a cake. There's gonna be BBQ and kegs of beer and cake just isn't that important to me. I don't know we will see though. If we do I'll be leaving the flamingos off it. Only because I don't want it to be a flamingo themed wedding, I just want it to incorporate all the things we love, which is why I will have lawn flamingos everywhere the dog, and an Elvis performer. If we do a cake the toppers will have to incorporate something else we both love, like skeletons riding beach cruisers HA!

Hey Aubrey - sorry to hear about your chick.

I can't help you with any new ones today but... (see below)

My niece is also a very talented cake decorator. She has worked in and managed the store bakery at a couple of different Wal-Marts.

Major drama in the hen house today. I moved all my Black Ameraucanas into the small coop/run. 'Tude and her sister (especially the sister) were easy to move since they are perpetually broody - all I had to do was go in the big coop and pick them up out of the nest boxes. 'Tude had to peck at me of course but she didn't make a fuss until I started walking into the small run. Her sister just sat there quietly the whole time. The real drama was getting Poppy in there! He's never been exactly friendly - mostly he won't even let me get near him. It probably took me 30 minutes to finally catch him - by then everyone was traumatized! Good thing I don't have complaining neighbors - you haven't heard noise until you've heard 27 traumatized chickens squawking at the top of their lungs all at once!

Hopefully it's not too late in the year for 'Tude and sister to raise some chickies. I know they'll make good mothers as broody and protective as they are. If anyone has any suggestions on how to help them be successful I'd love to hear them!

Hey i know where we can meet. how bout the chicken show on Nov. 17th at the reno sparks event center?

Most of us always go. The show is only the 17th and it's at the Reno Livestock and Event Center on Wells Ave. Load in is Friday Nov. 16th. Saturday I must be at work by noon so we'll see if I can make it then.

Hahaha! That sounds cool! Actually I was thinkin'... cakes don't do very well at outdoor weddings. They like lots of cool temps and shade. lol

Oh man! That gave me such a feeling of deja vu! You'd think I'd done that myself once upon a time!

Sorry. I said swans.........I'm not all there. Sunny I use butter cream. I started decorating when I was 14 and went to Chicago for the big Wilton course when I was 18. That's why I got stuff with all the decorating at the Claremont when they needed something done. The didn't have a pastry chef for most of the 15 years I worked there. I was it, but not like a contant thing. One of the shops I worked at in Hayward is a really top bakery. It the place the Claremont would send people if they had no baker and I fixed a problem once, so got hired. I used to decorate at Neldam's in Oakland too. I love to decorate, but man my hands just can't work as fast as they used to. I'm already cringing over decorating all the cupcakes for the Twilight party next month. BTW, Veronica has done this a lot lately and I've done it in the past, but instead of a cake, CUPCAKES!

I'm so jealous! I always wanted to learn how to do that. I sculpt so I always figured sculpting with frosting would be a lot of fun. Course I need a few more lifetimes to do all the things I'd love to do.

You know we need a good cupcake shop here in Reno. They opened one and I was all jazzed to go, so I went and got a dozen cupcakes and they didn't even have filled cupcakes!!! The toppings were good but the cake part was so so. I've never heard of specializing in cupcakes and not filling them! In fact I always put something in mine at home even. A pudding or custard or cream cheese filling... I was very disappointed.

Quote: Black Copper Marans are my thing. I have quite a few of them and get lots of eggs the color of the ones you posted but I am doing a dark egg project so the eggs I am mostly getting are not dark enough for my project. I only have 1 gal that lays eggs even darker and her's are the only one's I hatch right now. I sure would like to get a few more super dark layers for my hatching project. I have 2 roos that came from super dark eggs so I am set there. Just need more pullets! *I know, that's what everybody says*

Here's a sample from my marans (and other layers). As you can see most of these are not what most marans' owners are looking for when hatching BCMs. I was just hoping for some of Bev's BCMs cause her's are supposed to be the darkest according to the guy that runs the egg shows on the west coast.

Sunny, they're beautiful! I'm impressed with their color. Looks pretty dark to me. Is the green from my girls? Who's laying the blue?

Well, if they stay broody after moving them you're in! The girls will take it from there. Aubrey I agree on the cake. We spent so much on my daughters cake and barely had time to cut it. I would have done a small cake for cutting if you want the tradition but serve cupcakes so its not another job and huge expense. Although I did have people who asked if we were going to cut the cake because they wanted to go. Evidently they just came for cake.
