Nevadans?

hope you all made out okay with all the rain this weekend. it was nuts how much water was in our yard. after it stopped, i went out and put down some leaves in the run. made it much better for the chickens instead of all that mud. i had a couple of bags of leaves that I hadn't brought in there yet so they were nice and dry.

love the elvis and santa photo! My cat would be terrified.

i've put up all our christmas stuff now except the lights outside. should have done that thanksgiving weekend when it was nice. oh well...

Aubrey love the Elvis with Santa photo! He is such a great little model isn't he?

I'll have to scour around for it...if I have it.   It might be in the possession of my ex (in which case consider it g-o-n-e)

LOL Yeah I get that! That's the way I felt about my ex. Funny thing was (funny strange, not funny haha) when he passed away Steve and I went over there to help the kids clean up and sort through stuff and I found a bunch of my old stuff! I was very happy to get some of my things back after all those years.

I love this photo.
I wonder how my cats would act?
One I think would be right in Santa's face sniffing his mouth to find out what he ate last, (really strange cat), the second is of the mind that if your going to pet her she'll let you hold her otherwise hands off. My toy-ger  or Toy Tiger is such a lap cat that he would lay in your arms like a baby with his belly exposed and go to sleep. The other 2 are of a mind that they don't like to be picked up, held, hugged or otherwise unless they climb into your lap.

Whoa. How many cats do you have?

Not so well here. Our peafowl coop actually flipped all the way over, broke open and the peacocks all escaped except for one which was killed. :( I've been so upset since yesterday morning when we discovered them. We've also sustained quite a bit of damage due to erosion. I'm not even sure how to go about fixing it all but we will get to it all eventually. I don't know how much rain the rest of you got but it poured here and the driveway and front yard have washed away in several places. They keep saying how lucky we are that the weather was unseasonably warm or we would be dealing with 6 feet of snow but I think I'd rather be dealing with snow at this point. Yeah shoveling snow is no fun but at least it wouldn't have caused this kind of damage!

I'll get pics later...

Yeah, I have my "outside boots" sitting within the breezeway. I need some rubber barn boots! The mud is a good 3 inches thick in some areas!

I'm so sorry to hear that! And the frustrating thing is, there's nothing you could have really done about it, either, in your area! There's just no shelter there!

No, there isn't. I'm tellin ya if we owned this place I'd be planting
thuja trees everywhere to act as windbreaks and all the bermed areas would be terraced to prevent slides and severe erosion.
I'm so sorry that happend. Those peacocks were so pretty. This is sahara.

Thank you Sahara! 3 are safe in temporary coops right now. They love to fly though so they have been flying pretty much where ever they want right now.

Oh sunny how tragic!!!! Im so so sorry D: let me know if you need ANYTHING, okay?

Thanks Sweetie! Just be here for the party Saturday. Right now I need to concentrate on the positives, like having great friends to share simple stuff with. We'll deal with the rest over time. Wanna help me pick out a tree again this year? lol JK, I know you're working crazy hours right now. Maybe you could come a little early on Saturday to help me set up? I'm so excited that we get to see you all again! I love spending time with you all.

sorry sunny! have you seen any of the peacocks around?

Yes the 3 left have all been found. They are in a smaller coop now so I had to let them out today. I couldn't leave them in such a cramped coop for the whole day. They were perched on top of the coops this evening so Steve had to put them back in.

Sunny, maybe they will come home?  We can always hope and pray.

Yes they all stuck close by as is normal for peafowl. The first 2 were easy to find. They had just flown over the 7' fence and into the layer's pen. DH found the other one late last night hiding under another coop bldg. I've checked their legs and wings for injuries and they seem fine. So we only lost one when the coop flipped. He was a beautiful bird and I will miss him terribly. :(

Thank you everyone for your sympathy. I really appreciate it!!!

Oh Sunny, what sad and happy news. I'm so glad they pretty much stayed put. I heard they imprint to the home they are raised in and will try everything they can to stay there when something happens. Do you have any pictures of him?

Missy, the mud was really bad here too, but like Elizabeth, we raked all the leaves from the front and back yards and piled them in the bird area. The ducks and chickens loved spreading them all over the place. No more mud for now. We will be spreading alfalfa next to keep it like this. If you have straw then you can use that too and the chickens and ducks should clean out any seeds as well.

The puppies are so cute. Yep, Elvis is still a puppy too. All dogs are puppies in my eyes.
