Nevadans?

It's going great. I've been lazy so far today and it's been very nice. Steve took care of all the animals this morning so I got to sleep in. We're just sitting here watching a movie before we get going on a few more chores.

How's your day going so far?

Good afternoon all!

Hey Sunny! I love treehouses! I have books with all kinds of plans for them. Even homes!

Tango and Cash have finished being housebroken for well over a week now. They had an accident each the first day, but nothing since, so they've done good since Christmas Eve when we got them. Working on finding them good homes now. Just need to get back the money we paid for them and costs that I've had, like shots and worming. Now if they didn't have to get right up to my phone and my daughter's phone when we try to get updated pics. I have one of Cash, but Tango just wants to lick the dang things and we end up laughing to hard at him to get him to hold still. They almost have "sit" down. They're only 8 1/2 wks right now and wiggly, so it'll happen. Tango is a little better at it. Cash is big of a big dumb lug. LOL

I lost 17 birds the other day. Then I guess since my dogs were in the run while it happened, they decided it would be fun to try it. Well Dusty anyway! Isis just ran around till I told her to go back into the run, but Dusty got hold of a pullet and when I got to her she was literally on her back, feet up straight and not moving. I grabbed her up and got hold of Dusty and stuck her in the run and took care of the pullet. She's out there fine now although there was a puncture in her comb and she was in shock. . I've put off working with Dusty since we got her. She's usually just a dork, but she plays hard and so I decided to tie her to a tree on a short leash while I filled feeders and waterers. Then I figured yesterday was as good as any to try to do the training I should have done 2 years ago. I've just been so depressed and really wasn't ready for a puppy and doing any training when she got here. She does know to wait while I fill bowls and they don't budge till I release them, but other than that, she's never been the sharpest tool in the shed. I guess if one of the reasons I want land is to start a training center again, our own dogs should be model citizens. I also hadn't worked Isis since last Dec when we were attacked by that Pitt and I worked with her too. She's so big that since I had broken my wrist, I was afraid to use my hand, but yesterday she got a 15 minute refresher course and started off pulling. I swear she's never pulled, and knows when it's time to work, but not yesterday. Took the frst 5 minutes to let her know she was doing it wrong and the next 10 I even worked her off leash. She listens off leash, but she just wanted to be a hardhead. I bet watching what all went on back there, got them riled up and if they had been loose I wonder if they would have rotected the flock or joined in. I really think they would have protected and the bords would have been safe, but since that didn't happen they just saw something fun to do. Isis didn't bother any of the birds at all. She's always been good around them. Dusty charged then till I yanked the lead and told her "leave it!" After I worked with her I walked her past loose and penned birds. She got excited once and after that she left them alone, but looks like I'm going to have to really work with her now to get her to see the other dogs that did the attacks were doing it wrong. We'll see. The pups I don't leave loose and they are inside unless I am with them, but they have met the birds and they ignore them. There are chickens running around all over the neighborhood. There's a Game hen that will come up on the front porch and I don't have her eating from my hand yet, but she'll eat right next to me. She shared puppy food with them this morning and nothing. Then there's the cat. I'm still thinking I need to be rid of this cat. He keeps me to stuffed up. First time he met the pups he hid by the refridgerator and kept pecking around at the pups in the livingroom. I swear he was taller than he is long. LOL That's a great arch he has. LOL Now he'll go out front with the pups and although he watches them, he gets close now and they give him one sniff and then ignore him too.

It's raining today, but I've got leashes sitting here, so going out to work my big girls for a while. Sure hope this works or I don't know if I'll ever be able to leave Dusty off leash again around the birds, which totally sucks!

Oh MAN!!! I would love to have a book full of tree house plans! Now I'm gonna go check out Amazon to see what they have. Good luck with the training.
What didn't work?
Can't find the good one with all the plans, but I did find one called "a Treehouse of your own" and it does have some directions and lots of help and a ton of pics for ideas. This one is a Barron's publication by John Harris. There are some beautiful and cool looking treehouses in this book.

Kim - I'm so sorry. Let's hope they don't do that again. How sad for you too.

Sunny - sorry about earlier, I've come down with a sinus/cold yesterday and I just don't feel good. I'm off and on the computer today. Mostly off because I'm sitting in my chair under a nice comfy blanket and wearing my toe socks too.

Thanks for the tip! I'll look for that one. I went to Amazon just now but got tired looking at all the choices. I look later when I'm rested. After a quiet morning we were super busy for the rest of the day and now my back is screaming at me again. I know it hates me right now but the feeling is mutual.

Those that don't visit the CA thread must think I'm ignoring the horror of your loss. They don't know we have discussed this on your thread. I know what you're going through since I went through the same thing myself awhile back. It's heartbreaking.

Nothing to be sorry for Sheryl. Sorry you aren't feeling well but I didn't sense any grumpiness or anything. I appreciate the heads up on the links not working. If nobody says anything I'll never know!

Kim, I'm sorry to hear about your birds!

Our other child Mark now has a drivers' license and a car, so he figures the next step is getting a dog. (He's never ever owned an animal before, even a goldfish.) He's been having hours-long conversations with us on the right dog to get and where to get it, and now is looking at Craigslist and is reviewing the dogs with us. So far, the direction points to a lab. I got on my soapbox and said, "No matter what dog you get, if it is aggressive to my chickens and ducks at ALL, it will not be welcome in this house or this yard ever again. If that's important to you, I recommend not getting a hunting dog." He took me seriously, because he wants his dog to come hang out with ours. However, even Oh'no and Tater took training to be totally trustworthy with even ducklings and chicks. And since the dog talk keeps revolving back to labs (he wants a man's-best-friend type that isn't aggressive to kids) then I think I might have to just sit back and wait for a chicken or two to die before I get to set my foot down about rules. Even a non-hunting dog that has never been around chickens might try to kill one. I just really hope it's not one of my favorites.
