Nevadans?

Yeah shots are easy. I used to help an aunt and my great grandmother when I was a really little girl. I started doing them myself, with someone watching, when I was about 10. Bill was impressed at how quick I could do them and not whinning pups. I couldn't get an vaccines delived in time with my first litter of Rotties, so after over a decade of doing them myself, I took them to the vet for their first ones. Before the next one was due, they all catch Parvo. The only places they had ever been was my house and the vet , so guess where they got it. I lost every single puppy, so other than these 2 and that litter, I've always given them myself. I've met so many people who make comments about people giving shots at home themselves and they think it's horrible. I just tell them about my poor babies and how it never happened before or since. Now cats!!! I prefer not to do it. Just always been paranoid since vet school. If I hadn't quit I might not have graduated anyway since I refuse to do it.
I imagine cats would be harder. Well the way kittens get so calm when you lift them by the scruff of their necks they probably wouldn't be a problem. It's the older cats I wouldn't want to deal with.

The reason I don't want to is because of the space of air between the skin and flesh. I don't know why I'm so paranoid still, but I'm affraid I'd do it wrong and kill them. Plus they can get horrible infections. I usually do SubQ and intermuscular is more intimidating to me, but I backed off the cats and didn't learn. No one raised cats much when I was growing u so I didn't have family to teach me.

I'll tell you from my experience with my cats is that they don't seem to feel it or mind either. The best part with them also is that my kitty carriers have tops that come off so they never have to leave their comfort zone and the vet can just badda bing badda boom. However the kitties love getting chin scratches and wander out anyhow. Overall I stress less taking the cats for shots than I do the dang ol dog!

I <3 cats!!!!

I wanna go to the show but I just can't afford it this year. Good thing too cuz last year I came home with 8 more birds!

Yea intramuscular shots are definitely more challenging than subcutaneous. Once upon a time I had to give myself intramuscular injections twice a day, for 2 months. The needle was huge! Nothing like the insulin shots I gave my Mom which were tiny needles and subcutaneous. To tell you the truth I'd be more comfortable giving them to a human than an animal. Don't know enough about animal anatomy. Under the skin I am fine with. I'm sure I could learn though.

You don't give your cats their shots? You're gonna be a Vet right?

Sorry you can't make it to the show but I agree, I don't need to come home with a bunch of chickens! I hate the whole quarantine thing during winter. It's so hard to keep just a few chickens warm this time of year and the spare bedroom already has 8 growing chicks in it. I can't deal with any more stink in the house right now!

So this is gonna sound really funny but I've never given the mammals shots before because I actually really REALLY enjoy going on trips to the vet. Like, I actually think about it all night and get giddy when it's time to go! It even makes the expense worth it to me! Is that weird?!?! Hahaha
