Nevadans?

Yea, I'd heard that to, that you use Lavs to get white. I'm more than a little lost when it comes to the complications of breeding though.

Hi everyone! Super excited. We are going dancing tonight. The theme is Hot August Nights, so I made a circle skirt and it came out super cute! Went out to a couple of the show and shines last night. Had to fight to keep from drooling all over the gorgeous cars. I even saw a perfectly restored Plymouth Satelite in the same year as my old one that I mentioned a few posts back. Brought back a lot of memories!

ordered chicks from Justuschickens for October (she has partial English Orps - two full English, clem and winston - beautiful birds). But I ordered chicks from her cause I am tired of being skunked on shipped eggs.

Well six little.....er not so little....chicks are on their way to their new coop thanks to SparksNV. Hope they rode well Carol. Your daughters are so very nice.

Great photos folks. And hope everyone in Reno and vicinity has at least a little time to enjoy the cars this weekend.

So far on nipples I have
Sunny for 10 delivered yesterday.
Horsefeathers for 10
SparksNV for whatever works in a couple buckets.

Sparks as for how many in a bucket. Pretty much depends on you. I don't do it with buckets. I would put 3 to 4 in the bottom of a 5 gal bucket. You could probably do the same with a 2 gal. One Nipple is supposed to serve up to 15 birds. I find that when one starts drinking they all want to drink though. As for me I came up with a design that uses 3/4 inch pvc fittings and drip irrigation line. my reservoir is outside the runs and the line allows the waterers to be placed anywhere I want them. This does add to the cost per waterer though, pvc fittings are not cheap.

I will most likely simply place the order once I have a final number from sparks. Folks can just pay me back for them once they are here.

Computer is feeling much better - Thank you to Mountain Computers - they healed it of the many viruses it seemed to have...

My gals are home!!! Yes, Genny, they rode just like perfect ladies - hardly a peep out of them but they were panting as we expected. They are exploring their new home & scratching around for treats. They drank out of all 3 water bowls. I am not so sure my feeders will work though. I will post some pics tomorrow of the feeder and, of course, of the gals! Dogs seem to not be too interested. They wanted into the run, I think, just cause we were in there getting to know the gals. We picked them up and put them in the coop & they eventually figured out how to get out. I can see them out a window in my living room - it's fun to watch!

Huge thanks to Genny for the gals & for the *bonus* dozen eggs - can't wait til I can pass on some of my own eggs!

Penturner - why don't you put me down for 10 nipples - 2-3 per 2 gal water bucket and a couple to spare. Thanks for organizing it!

Carol

We had a great design that ran a line into and out of the hen house from a 5 gal. bucket with a toilet float in it. Worked great until it got really hot. We would put frozen 2L. soda bottles (w/water-ice) in the bucket to cool it off. That worked, but the water in the line was still HOT. So we'd drain the line, but it was hot again w/in a couple of hours. So...back to the drawing board. We are adjusting ours to lose the lines. It is easier to just place the nipples in the bottom of the bucket w/float and keep the water cool in there than to flush the lines constantly...for us. So if you plan to use lines, come up with a way to flush them hourly or insulate them so that the chickens aren't left with water that is too hot to drink. Oh, and I think that those lines would also maybe be a problem in the winter too, unless you can insulate them REALLY well. Just my experience and humble opinon. I do LOVE the nipples though. It's so nice not to have to worry about stinky, dirty drinking water.

Good evening/night everybody. Thanks to vegaschick (plus her brother) and Holly31 I now have 2 new BCM roos. I know, I know, I'll try and get pics. Hey Reno-ites, enjoy the cars for me too. SparksNV congrats and have fun.

I saw this post from a fellow Nevadan, https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=4562018#p4562018 , anybody have any ideas? They also had a great idea about making chicken popsicles out of scratch or layer, and water frozen in margarine tubs then turned out in the run.

Have a great weekend all.

Hello everyone from Las Vegas!

I have three RiR chickens, so far, which I just found out two are roosters, and I'm not allowed to keep rooster.

So, as you can guess I'm looking for some more. Does anyone from Las Vegas have any fertile eggs or chicks that they are selling? I need at least one dozen eggs or a few chicks from any of the dual purpose breeds (RiR or BR pref.). Thanks in advance!
