Good lookin' birds! And you can't beat the price! Daffy is definitely a BSL. Here's a couple of pics of one of mine. The spittin' image.I did some more research since I posted the pic of Daffy, and I believe you all are correct. I think she's a Black Sex-Link or Black Star. From what I've found, there is quite a possible variation of coloring with the black/red. We've had her (and 2 others from the same family - a buff cochin and red leghorn) since Tuesday. They were in "quarantine" inside the hen house for two nights and have been with the flock since Friday Am. So far, both Daffy (Black Star/Sex link) and Scarlett (Red Leghorn) have begun laying every day. Mildred, the older Buff Cochin is holding her own, but hasn't layed yet. THANKS SO VERY MUCH with all your advice. I appreciate it. - Mary

Welcome to the Nevada thread Chicken Skin!Yeah, I'm from Lamoille Nevada.
Welcome to the Nevada thread rlh1!Hi! I'm here in Las Vegas. I need some ideas on a good coop design. I'm thinking the coop will be on the side of my house with a run. So, it's not a very wide space but I think it will work. Any suggestions? I'm just starting out with this and know nothing.
Thanks, Ricki
I have yet to hatch any eggs... And one of my silkies just came down with wry neck, so I'm putting new chicks on hold until it gets warmer and these guys go outside. Silkies (atleast mine) are so high maintenance.. I'm constantly worried I'm going to find one dead every morning :/ ugh.
I quoted you to say I can't see the pics but this one showed up in the quote. lol Congrats on the new hens! All those breeds are great layers. We adopted 3 hens from a local who needed to rehome them. Here is "Daffy", so named because when excited, she makes a duck noise. She is not a duck. She's a hen. But the former owners can't remember what kind of chicken she is. Does anyone have an idea what type of hen Daffy is? Bovans Nera ? Other?

We are getting our backyard done as we speak! Interviewed 4 companies and went with Little City Landscaping.
A red Cochin?!?!? Now THAT is very cool!!! I have a barred rock Cochin and think she is the best! I think I would like the red ones!
