Nevadans?

I dug up the garden today because we are suppose to get snow at my house tonight. It's just a crazy year I tell ya. Lacey is doing great with her 4 babies but she doesn't have them in the coop yet. She is still in the dog crate. I see her each night showing the chicks how to get into the coop but they haven't followed her in there so she just comes back down and ends up in the crate. I've put a blanket on top of the crate last night preparing for the snow tonight. There isn't any draft and I left the sides open for ventilation. The chicks were a bit noisier tonight than usual but they settled in pretty well. I'm so glad they all feathered in before this storm hit.

How is everyone else doing? It's way too quiet here lately.
Hi Sheryl

Boy, it has been quiet on here

so I thought I would pop in with a picture of my first Marans egg, plus my Marans rooster and one of my 6 hens. Very exciting! Better egg color than I expected from a golden cuckoo Marans.

Candy! Yep, very quiet! I love you new eggs, very pretty. I'm looking forward to some more next year once these chicks start laying. I pretty much started over this year with my flock. I only kept a 3 out of 19 birds and it sure made my yard very quiet until my rooster started crowing very loudly. This is the loudest rooster I've ever heard but it's the perfect crow. He's also very huge already at 5 months old, he's already bigger than Leroy was after he was a year old. I sure miss him though, he was a really great rooster. This one won't get near more at all, I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not but at least he leaves me alone. How are you doing?

Refresh my memory. Did you get Marans chicks? Is your rooster a Marans? My golden cuckoo Marans rooster is VERY loud! And not a pretty crow either! Good thing he is so beautiful and respectful. My bantam BLRW rooster is the boss of the yard though. It is hilarious to see him chasing that big Marans rooster all over the yard!

I am up to 71+ chickens. Lost count really

Chicks don't count do they? hehehe. And now I am adding Silkies. I have eggs from Catdance Silkies in the incubator. I Love my bantams.

Doing ok here. Hope you are doing well now!

I am going to have some super nice W/BW Ameraucana chicks next year

I was told by Pips&Peeps that the pullet (pictured below) I posted a picture of on the Ameraucana thread is show quality and I should show her! Coming from Jean that is really something! The rooster below is her brother. I have a new line (Cree) that I will be using him with next year.

Candy, whenever I see your birds I really have to resist the urge to go on a shopping spree. They are beautiful!! Hahaha.
Hey all. I'm creeping on here for a little bit today, because I miss my Nevada peeps!

Hope everyone is doing good! I'll try to come on again tonight or tomorrow. ^.^

Candy - I have mainly Marans along with 1 BLW and LA.

Boy, tonight was the night Momma Lacey said it was time for her to go into the coop but the chicks didn't want to follow her. They went into the crate after running around the yard a bit and crying outside of the coop for her but she stayed in there. I got them out of the crate and put them into the coop with everyone and this one chick kept coming out and running around refusing to stay in the coop until finally it did. It sure did worry me. Now Amanda showed her chicks where to go and they stayed with her in the coop. I didn't have this drama like I did tonight with her batch. Perhaps, Amanda will be the one who will be raising the chicks only. I'm going to let Monique hatch out next year and see how she does, Monique is the top hen with my flock so it should turn out nicely and Monique is really getting up there in her age.

Does anyone want a free 10 week old Silkie roo? Not sure of the color yet, maybe Porcelain, maybe Partridge. He is ten weeks old. He has the slow feather gene as you can tell but the end result is very satisfying. Oh ya he is already practicing his singing. He is bearded but it is coming in real slow. He is very nice and loves to be played with.

I sort of remembered you got Marans chicks from Sunny, but didn't know which hens you had kept from Kirstie and I.

So far my 5 bantam Polish chicks are minding momma (a bantam buff Brahma) and going in at night. When my Silkie eggs hatch I will need their space, so they will need to go in my d'Anver house/run. Then, like you, I will be worried that they go in and stay in for the night! It is always hard to train them to go up on the roosts!

Glad your back to feeling better and enjoying your chickens again!

Looks like a porcelain. I have 13 Silkie eggs, 7 which are porcelain, cooking in the incubator right now

My favorite chicken color!

You could ask on the Northern California thread. Be sure to say what lines he is from.
