Nevadans?

I'm selling my hendom and getting out of the chickeneering business. Turn my loss into your gain with this great set up! I have 14 hens total. 5 Easter Eggers that are 15 months old and laying blue-green eggs every day. 5 Barred Plymouth Rocks and 4 Rhode Island Reds that are 3 months old and will be laying about Labor Day. I have egg records of all my girls for the last 3 years. They're very healthy & happy and have been watered with ACV since birth. I have a GREAT 4'X8' coop over a 'basement' of the same size, 2 dog kennel runs 10X6 configured to make a super secure chicken run with 1/2" hardware cloth along the bottom 2 ft. for protection from predators. It has removable plexiglass storm windows for the winter. 42"x100' portable electric fence made by Premier with a Patriot P20 fence charger, great for keeping the chooks where you want em and the critters out! 2 Night Guard flashing anti predator sensors. There's feeders, waterers, feed storage bins, signs, etc. This set up is solid and bomb proof. I've never lost a girl to predators and take pride in their secutity. We've just added a puppy to the family and don't have the time to enjoy the chooks like we used to. Hopefully they'll go to a good home and you can experience the pleasure that we have watching 'Chick TV'. Contact me if you're interested

Good questions. I have a de-worming program I've been using now for 3 years because of our climate. Because we are not a wet climate we do not have the same issues as other people. I'm on a once a year method, I de-worm my flock once it starts to warm up and the moisture level is still a bit high. I switch the medication so the parasites do not become resistant to any of it. Last year I used Ivermectin from Walmart. This year I used Valbazen (albendazole) from Jeffer's livestock. Ivermectin works on blood sucking parasites but I've noticed over the years it does not work on lice. I use Sevin dust for lice and it works great and the lice cannot become resistant to it. You'll notice once the temps rises the parasites leave. My coop will get above 120 degrees in the Summer and nothing can live in that heat. I have a thermometer in my coop I can read in the house. I place a hose on the coop's roof after several hours to cool it and open the doors so the temperature gets back down for the birds. This really works for me. My chickens forage in my garden area when the plants are dying and I'm done harvesting what I want to put away for the Winter and let the chickens have the rest. The chickens forage the garden until I plant again once the weather warms up just enough to pant my lettuce, chard, radishes, and carrots. Then they are secured in their area. I always give them garden matter all Season long everyday, such as weeds, plant thinnings, and plant cleanings. I also have a bowl on my kitchen counter for all vegetable matter for them and they know when I bring it out even before I can see them. There they are standing and cackling. I also compost all my non-meat matter. I'm using the 3 bin method. I place all the coop material in it as well. I stir it up once a week and water it lightly. The dirt forms about once a month for me and I use the dirt for all of my gardening and potted plants. Clay, sand, and water will make cement and not all areas have earthworms. It's best to find dirt with earthworms in it place them in your garden area once you are using your own dirt, the earthworms will stay there since they can't live outside of your garden in our climate. That's how I'm able to live here. Here's pictures I took this morning of my garden so far: Onions Strawberries Carrots and some Lettuce More Lettuce and Beets Swiss Chard Sunflower plants for chickens Potatoes Grapes Garden shot Chives Parsley Oregano
I have a huge garden too, but this setup is great! And you're so far along already. The last frost took out a lot of what I had and some is just starting to come back. :(

WOW! Very impressive! Love the split doors like a horse barn! I would love a chicken barn like that! :drool

How are all the chickens doing? My 2 LR roosters are getting big and need to get put in with the big chickens soon. The wheaten roosters color is really off :(   Hackles are yellow instead of red. The blue wheaten rooster is pretty though. How are your LR chicks looking?

They look ok. I don't have your eye for the breed definitely, but need a roo. The one that hatched from LR is super dark and the hens as well. I can pick the two pullets from the LR eggs from your girls easily with how dark they are. Don't like that. I think I'll put the blue boy I got from you with them because he's beautiful and the sweetest young roo we have right now. If you ever sell your super light hen or just her eggs, count me in. ;) lol

I can always separate out the 2 oldest BW and SW Ameraucana hens that came from Paul Smith to gather eggs for you. Not sure how well they are laying right now. They produce my best chicks. Some of your chicks might be from them since they were in with the 3 Cree pullets when I collected eggs for you. Sounds like your BW rooster chick might be out of them.

The Silkies are laying well

I have been saving their eggs and really shouldn't set them because I am trying to downsize. The two Silkie chicks I did hatch are both Partridge and so cute! I don't know if they came from the blue pullet I sold or the white pullet x porcelain roosters. Not sure yet whether I am going to keep them.

Tempting.......ha! Let me get the group I have from you grown out and integrated with my big girls, then yes. :) They got moved tonight into a big run in the yard for more room and to get used to my big girls. Having a broody introduce babies is so much easier. Not looking forward to watching them get picked on, so I'll give them a few more weeks. That's great your silkies are on a roll laying...but you know what that means. Lol! They'll be dropping like flies as the broody bug hits. I have 2 silkies, 2 BCMs, and one of your brahma girls broody now. Hope no one else is tempted. I have 5 bigger GCM boys of yours and I don't know how to pick the best two. What do you look for? Barring, head and back golden color? Do you like the lighter heads, super gold heads, or the darker boys? Help me! Lol

I'm in need of the darkest fertile FBCM eggs available. I have someone with a broody, not to mention mine going broody full time yesterday, and I NEED eggs.

Sounds like you have enough chickens for now

One of my Silkies pullets won't walk, talks a lot and hunkers down . . hmmmm, my first broody? My only porcelain pullet too. The lavender girl should make nice babies though. Wish I weren't down sizing, or I would hatch some eggs from them.

Here are some pictures of the GCM rooster I kept. Note how much gold color he has, a nice wide chunky body, NO white in his tail (on your young ones look for the darkest barring) and a correct tail set. Not too high not too low. He could have better leg feathering, but his other attributes make up for it

Here are some pictures of the wheaten and blue wheaten LR rooster chicks. A real disappointment

Sunny doesn't have any? If you don't mind the drive down I-80 to Gold Run, Harris5 (Kirsty) has some really nice quality BCMs

How are the 2 Ameraucana pullets doing? Are they laying for you?

The LR rooster I hatched looks similar to your dark one. Only kept him because not related. The light blue boy we have from you is our favorite. I'll get a picture later. We love him even if he's not the right colors. Very sweet. :) One of the two GCMs we kept looks like yours. Super gold. The other one has less gold and really dark barring, but my husband likes him. I think I ended up with mostly boys from your GCM eggs. Lol. And mostly pullet OEs. Holy moly...as I watch the ones I hatched and the group I put out yesterday ill have LOTS of pretty olive eggs. :D The OEs with the best feathered feet are boys. Too bad because they are really cool looking.
