Nevadans?

I've never seen Wheaton Marans. I'd love to see a pic sometime. Pete Ovalle has some lovely birds! He is very picky about his breeding program too. Plus he's such a nice guy.

Love the award! So cute!
Thank you chickee. I'm looking forward to getting more ameraucanas when you're ready. :)

I have heard Pete is very nice and serious about his birds. Looking forward to meeting him.

I might have to trade you some Ameraucana eggs for some of your dark black copper eggs. :D I just need to figure out how I am going to separate my golden cuckoo and wheaten Marans. I only have 3 pens and two are for Ameraucana.

My sweet wheaten Marans cockerel. Fitz Farm.

One of my two wheaten Marans pullets. Also Fitz Farm.

My first grouping of chicks is on the ground! Yaaaay!

They are mostly Bantam crosses, but they are so sweet!

I picked up 5 quail to start breeding as well.

I'll hopefully have some blue Swedish/Pekin cross duckling soon as well! Here's a pic of my newly acquired Cayuga duckling.

Congrats! So cute!

Ugh, I've about given up trying to get a good pic of my roo. I tried to get one with hubby holding him out but DH is not so good with these things these days. So I couldn't get a full body shot.

Here's that shot though...

Then I tried to get a shot when the rain cleared but he wouldn't hold still. The next time I tried, I realized he'd damaged his comb somehow (poor guy) and now he's molting (we had a serious temperature hike then a sudden drop here). But here's my best shots from today. :/

Of course he turns at the last second when a pretty girl goes by...

I cut off the tail in this pic. Look at his comb after! You can see how beautiful it was in the before pic...

Here's one of my super dark layers. I just love her!

This is her egg (the one in the middle raised up). You can see it's not a nine on the marans egg scale but it's a solid 8. I'm happy with that since she's been laying for almost 2 months now. Maybe someday I'll get a 9.

Very handsome boy and pretty girl! Great egg color too!

If you have extra roosters I have so many people looking for them! My golden cuckoo and wheaten Marans lay an egg the color of the one just below your darkest egg.

My wheaten rooster won First place, best variety and reserve breed in the FB Fancy Fowl Virtual Poultry Show. :) Fun to have your birds judged by real poultry judges and not risk exposing them to other birds! The judge said he as an unusually nice head and good body type.

My wheaten Marans eggs from Pete Ovalle are due to hatch tomorrow. 13 eggs made it to lockdown. I also have 10 Ameraucana eggs hatching with them. Two have pipped this morning. I will have 6 of those chicks up for sale. So far I have been hatching more girls than boys this year! Yay! Mostly boys last year!

Thanks for posting the pictures Sunny!

YAY! Ameraucana babies!

That's good egg color for wheatens. Most people have no issue with hatching those for BCMs as well but you know my penchant for the darkest egg color.

I'm only hatching a very small amount of chicks since I'm choosing only my 2 darkest layer's eggs to hatch. It will be a while before I know if I have extra boys and I promised KMolly a roo first. I don't know why everyone wants roos this year but they do. I've had a couple requests for roos since you asked me. I doubt I can fill all these requests but I'll keep your friends in mind if I have a roo heavy year like last year (I hope not though, I need some more dark egg layers).

I don't recommend starting with only 1 cockerel though. I chose the 2 best out of 15 boys. It just seems so hard to find all the best qualities required of any roo responsible for a breeding program. IDK maybe I'm being too picky?

I don't think you can be too picky! :) That is why your chickens are so good!

Are you hatching chicks and selling eggs from your black copper Marans? I have a person interested in purchasing some. :)

I am hatching a few but I'm doing so to try and build up my flock. At this rate it will be at least a year, and more likely 2 years before I have extras to sell.
