I know but I wish you did.

Me too.

I have a broody! I'm so excited. It's Casino, the gamebird that I was given in the summer. I'm so excited. I got fertile (hopefully) eggs from ke_ben and chickfrmlv to put under her. I hope 9 eggs is not too many for her. If it is...I think another girl may be going broody too. She only left the nest once today that I saw. I may just give her a few of those under Casino or I may be forced to take another trip out to get more eggs from ke_ben. His baby goats are seriously adorable.

Oh, here's some pics of Casino...She's a fierce little broody. She must have picked about 10 fights in the 10+ minutes she was off the nest today. Those are some serious hormones! The other hens couldn't look at her, eat or drink near her, or even stand near her without risking the wrath of mama to be. Sheesh!

Has anyone ever dealt with spraddle leg? The one with the nicest feathering looks like his foot is folded in half and he can't walk right. What do I do??

I put a thingy in the emergencies section but no help yet.

Sorry, I've never had to deal with it.

From what I've read it could be caused by improper temps in the bator but that was from someone here on BYC and I have not confirmed that yet.
Could you tape a small splint to it? Maybe it will straighten out since they are still young.

I thought I had read somewhere that spraddle was caused by them being raised on a surface with slippery footing - like shredded newspaper. I don't remember what the cure was, though.

"Thanks for the offers, but Henny has already been in broody jail for 2 days, and i'm not really prepared for a momma hen right now. I'm just going to get chicks at the store. CAL got chicks in yesterday, but IFA aint getting chicks till next Wednesday. I like shopping at IFA more, so I plan to get the chicks there.

Second, spraddle leg is where the chick cannot get both feet under the body to stand, or when they do - the legs spread back out because the ligs are weak. Spraddle you want to make hobbles to hold the legs close to each other for a couple days.

If the foot is folded in half - it may be broken? - but I would try flattening it out, and if I could then I would cut a cardboard foot size pad and using a band-aid, tape the foot to the cardboard pad.

Does the chick have both spraddle and a folded foot?

How old is the chick?

PICTURES?????????????????????

So happy your chicks made it.

That hobbling has only made things worse for the ones I've tried.

Get a coffee mug and set it inside. If it's not bad it will heal soon. If it's really bad you'll know by tomorrow. It works much better than anything else.

Casino is cute. Love the name, but them I'm partical to casinos. Must be in the blood. LOL
