I like your setup, but how do you keep coyotes out with just chicken wire? I have a big problem with them here - had to use welded wire, with chicken wire overlayed. Oh yeah, and some 1/2" square mesh down low - I was feeding an entire ecosystem of mice and ground squirrels!

the wire on the older part of my yard is falling down, and needs replaced. we originally used 2" holed wire, but on the newer part used 1/2" wire. We were able to get it much tighter and its not falling down. I havnt had a problem with coyotes, they don't usually come down the canyon as far as too my house, and we don't really have any other predators up here, that cant fly. We also got rid of all the mice from the coop. i know its hard to believe, but we either caught them all, and the last few ran off. where there was once a huge family, there wasnt even 1. we dont see em anymore and the traps arent getting snapped anymore

I lost a RIR today. One of my older ones. I don't know what happened - she just kind of sat down and didn't want to get back up.

Thank you Sunny. She was about 10 months. Everyone was fine Saturday. Yesterday I didn't go out and look at them because I'm having back spasms and couldn't really do anything. Today she was just lying in one spot and her eyes looked kind of cloudy. By this afternoon she was gone. I hope it isn't anything that will spread to the others...

daegorn thank you and I hope you are feeling better soon!

aw ron, that stinks

and daegorn, i hope you feel better!

ive been getting alot of flak for wanting to fix my showgirl chicks leg. Its going to be really costly. I was getting some crap for not culling the chick because it is obviously in pain. My head is going in circles over this chick. Im having a hard time sleeping at night! I am going to see another vet this weekend. I just want the leg amputated. poor chick

Aubrey I'm so sorry you are having to go through this! I know you will come to a decision that works for you. One of my chicks from this hatch was born deformed and we had to put him down. My DH cried. He said that little chickie had a lot of heart!

It's been a tough weekend all the way around. On the plus side we did get to see 2 of the kids and 1 of the granddaughters this last weekend. That is always a joy!

Ron I too hope that it is nothing contagious! She was awfully young to pass so suddenly. I know how the back spasm thing goes. You do what you can but you can't do much when your down with your back!

Aubrey: what did the vet say? Is the chicks hart rate elevated? Is she eating? Sorry the vet tech in me is insatiable!
Ron: wow, I am sorry, she was young. I two know about bad backs, pain patch and therma heat works for me to make it bearable.

Thanks all for the get wells!
