You are all so funny! I'm afraid I have to be honest and tell you all that a hen that doesn't lay for a few months around here goes in the stew pot as well.
Sheryl if you want to pick up one more hen to hedge your bets I'm fine with that. I won't charge you for another one but the freebie one will have to be one of the poor little rooster pecked ones that will be gorgeous again after she finishes her next moult. They are great layers!
Im gonna have to vouch for sunny on that one. I got a couple rooster pecked hens and they are REALLY sweet an have been laying for me. And did I mention that they're really sweet? Specially the e.e.

Thanks Sunny! I spoke to my hubby last week about perhaps getting another one because I hate to have them go on CL but he said no we have a full coop now which I know we do. I'm okay with what I get too. I just want to make sure Monique will be okay and if she will lay again? She hasn't had any stress here since her first day but every once in a while she does run back to the coop when she's free ranging because of all the new stuff she keeps seeing and she doesn't want to be food for anyone, she seems to think Mille will get her too so she runs back to the coop when Mille walks around her, then when she's in the coop she's starts complaining because she's in the coop with the door wide open. She gives up quickly though and gets right back out again.
Every single one of them are so much fun to watch, Sundae keeps coming to the door and when I open it she just stands there so I pick her up and when I do she puts her head on my shoulders and coos a bit then she wants down to free range.
Bella just wants to walk around and be left alone if I walk to her she leaves without a word and goes elsewhere, so we just let everyone do their own thing all of the time.
sunny, today i integrated Gyp with the rest of my flock because Mama has gone broody again. Gyp seemed really lonesome wandering around the backyard by herself. So far its going well. they are all pretty used to eachother by now. Gyp acted tough when she was behind the fence, but now that shes in with the girls shes letting them know that she knows shes the new girl. they are being very gentle with her though, just telling her "hey, i eat first, okay?" other than that they are all dustbathing together right now. I cant wait to get to the new house so these ladies can really stretch their wings!!!
ill show pics of their run now and then pics of the new backyard which they will freerange in (becuase its all dirt and weeds, so we dont have to worry about them destroying the landscaping) later. Its a huge difference. You will also see that the birds are overcrowded in their current run. DONT KILL ME! its becuase i anticipated the move so i figured i could keep my showgirls and sunnys two ladies. so i added seven chickens to my run that was meant for five

Give them a couple of weeks to learn the routine they will be fine.
Aubrey, I keep thinking I should move to a bigger place with a bigger yard just so I can have more chickens but I don't want to sell my house to do it
and yet when I drive to work I look at all the homes asking myself what if I move there perhaps I could have a rooster and more hens? I'm doomed I tell ya, I'm doomed!
