You should email the seed company somthing like "I just told a bunch on crazy chicken people about you..they all want cows soon and they'll be ordering in a bit. Dibs on a 20% commission, um, cough it up. Sincerely, Ron." Keep it short and sweet, otherwise they might say no.

Genny, I might check out that 1 Stop Ranch and Feed store. Do they sell hay?

JK!

Ok, I've been researching this stuff and I found a supplier in Utah that sells it for $2.10 a lb!

They also don't have an extra charge for small quantities. You just order exactly how much you want. They say that 10" a year of precip is needed but NV ag ext. says 8" so we are fine. In doing more research I have found that the Highcrest is superior in vigor, crowding out cheatgrass and surpassing Nordan by a large margin in becoming established earlier and with much better coverage. Here's the link to their website...

I wonder if they will give us a break on cost or shipping if we do one large order. Part of me wants to place a small order first though and see how their customer service is.

Aubrey goats will pull it out by the roots but they do this with all vegetation, that's why they are so desirable when trying to clear a large area of weeds. Just replant a section of your yard every year and rotate where they feed.

laceynoelle I am not sure if they do or not, there is not much storage there, so I am really not sure. I get my hay from a field just up the valley from me, I don't know if they have completed second cutting or not. I can look for their number if you are interested - it is a grass/alfalfa mix and everyone likes it - horses, geese, chickens.

Sunny Maybe we should car pool there and to the tortilla place

I am a bit excited to see how they feather out in their next molt - not this one happening now, as the feed is too new to have much to do with this feather development - but next spring and for sure next fall, all feather development will be from the new feed. I have noticed my chicks are..........fuller? looking - growing a bit faster - I am not sure exactly what, but I am seeing a change in my chicks - not just my orps but my cochins too.

chicharomirinda Your very welcome

sherylreno Will watch for your pm

I forgot to add, I feed the one feed from hatch to.....well death.

We are a chatty group.......like a bunch of chickens gathered round to discuss what new thing was found in the yard.

Sounds good. Wonder if Aubrey's frizzle gal would benefit from it? She still has a few patches to fill in before winter.
I'm going tomorrow morning to pick up tortillas and was planning to stop in just to check them out even though I'm not ready to buy feed yet. Corn prices have dropped a little recently but since they are still ridiculously high I will wait til I run out of what I have before stocking up. Hoping they will drop a little further before that happens.

Not much notice I know but I go every couple of weeks cause we have a thing for Mexican food.

Or, as Jose and many other folks I know would say, "food".

We're looking for different stuff to feed the goats, Green's is expensive and really leafy, a lot of it is wasted.

I think they have that 3 oatgrass mix I really liked it.

Good morning all. Can't seem to get back to sleep (been trying since 3) so I give up. Got too much going on today to hang on BYC so I wanted to say "Hi" before I go running off. Have a great fay everyone!

I'm a chicken mama!

They hatched Wed. and arrived this a.m. There should be 25 in there. I kept losing count but I think they're all here. I ordered 4 Buff orps, 6 black australorps, 5 welsummer, 3 barred rock, 3 SLW, 4 EE's. I think the order is fairly accurate. They are all doing great and happily jumping around the brooder. one BO actually crawled all the way into the chick feeder! and luckily got back out on her own.

Chicharo is intrigued. He is sitting by the brooder now watching the chick shadows!

This EE is one of my favorites so far. It's the only individual photo I've gotten so far. Hope it's not a roo!

Ok, I have the day off so I should have plenty of time to work on the coop.

Yet here I am still watching the chicks! My kids did not want to leave for preschool this a.m.! Laila said, "This is the best day of my life!"
