How do you like the book? I've been curious about it but I think what's important to me goes beyond most coop plans. My coop has to accommodate me and my cruddy back. Still every time I see it at the bookstore I'm curious about how much info it might have.
I got it out of the library. The Sierra View Library has it (the one inside the Old Town Mall; there is really no view at all from that library so the name always confuses me). I used the plans for the 8x8 walk-in coop as a guide and adapted it for my 10x10. I am putting in more windows and more other ventilation, for example. I also wanted mine elevated a little for some sheltered outside space for the chickens. I am putting in half as many nestboxes so I cut that down. I do like the explanations of construction techniques in it. It was helpful for a complete construction newbie like me.
Cool! I'll go to their website and put a hold on a copy. Much rather borrow it than pay for it. When I built my last one I went to the library and took out 7 books but none of them were super informative. Still I picked up a few tidbits from them. You are smart to cut down the number of nest boxes! I had read that they needed 1 nest box for every 3 chickens so I put in 7 nest boxes, since I had 22 chicks, and they only used 2! Even when I added more chickens the most that were ever used was 4. But the original 2 were always the favorites and hens would stand in line squawking loudly at whoever was taking too long to use the preferred nest.
Wow Lacey you were up early this morning! Or up very, very late last night.
Tyler glad your boy is hanging in there it's always tough having to deal with a sick chicken.
No, I went to bed at one, got up at four, and took another nap at like 8 after some chores. Ive got horrible sleeping habbits.
So my mom wants to put up a fence. She gave me the specifications, and today I researched everything and measure the yard, and all the materials alone is about 2400$!!!! Not including concrete. Ug. The good news is is I'd be the one putting it up, so no work costs.
OMG! That much for one acre?!! Oh man am I in trouble!
I wanted to fence 2 acres for the calf (or calves), 1/2 acre for the chickens with separate runs for layers and Marans, an area around the house so the dogs can patrol the whole house...
Please tell me there's a much cheaper way to do it. I don't care if it's ugly!
