A co-worker's son just moved to a place there (it's called Washoe Valley BTW), 1¼ acres. He got a really good deal on it - $117K. She says it was a bit of a fixer-upper, one of those places where the person who lost it stripped everything including the plumbing fixtures!

She and her son are both chicken people so he has a small flock. She says he lets them free range during the day.

Sunny, its like super duty 6ft chain link. She wants the best fence she can get for under 3000$ because the neighbors' horses lean on everything we've got on all sides, and one of them also has a chihuahua that always comes in our yard that our dogs hate. We encourage the dogs to kill squirels for us, so they keep trying to get to that stupid chihuahua and we dont want any problems like that. AND the chickens can get through the fence, the woman that live to the left of us tosses out scraps then throws the chickens into her coop and refuses to give them back. Its okay though, I just gave her 8 baby sexlinks that happened to be roosters. Across the street is a huge GSD/hound dog mix that just loves eating our animals and trying to get at our goats. Ha, we seriously need a better fence, cant you tell? Most other fencing is a lot cheaper.

Anyone have any job ideas?

And I heard the raiders lost, didnt get to see the game.

Ok, that makes much more sense.

We don't have any horses next to us, just a few head of cattle and a dog that is forever coming over to say "Hi" to Sampson. But they get along so it doesn't bother me. From what I've read most folks go with the electric fence but I hate the upkeep, they short out so easily and during the worst weather too.

I am a firm believer that a little extra effort and a little extra funds make for a much better set-up but funds are tight right now so we may have to settle for a more labor intensive fence til we can save up for some fence panels. I like the panels because they can be moved to keep an area from being overgrazed. Your Mom is smart to spend the money on a decent fence to protect your investment.

As far as jobs go I know that a lot of the retail shops are already gearing up for the holidays and have job offers listed on the web. Macy's and JC Penny's is hiring. I also saw 2 jobs listed for the JC Penny's Logistics Center out in Stead. DS's best friend works out there and he says the pay is great. He's only been there a year and has been moved up twice already. He started right out of high school a little over a year ago.

Anyway, good luck!

Elizabeth, I need pics! You know I need my fix of pics regularly! Especially now with no current projects of my own underway (no I don't count moving).
Sorry, I know you're busy right now. I'll try to be patient.

I just got an Acre in Carson City for under $200k. There are several on the south end of town for under $180. That would put you around 3-5 minutes from Costco and only 15-20 minutes from the lake. Let me know if you need a realtor too. I have a good friend that helped us and she is REALLY good at making sure you get the best deal for you ad not her. -Ed

about the gift of roosters! My husband is looking for part time work. I use the word "looking" very loosely because he's not making a very dedicated effort. He's been unemployed for 2 years and takes care of our 4 yr old twins during the day. So he needs something evening/weekends. He worked at the Kmart Distribution Center in Sparks for over 12 years. You may want to check out the jc penney logistics center as Sunny said. Warehouse work can actually pay pretty well.

Sunny, I will post some more pictures soon. I will show our progress on the siding and maybe throw in a few chick pictures. they are 1 week old today. they are really fluffing out. love those fluffy butts! I'm trying to convince my mom that they should get some chickens. They could convert our old playhouse (it's a big playhouse). She was not convinced. She was telling me stories about her childhood. Her dad was a pastor and people would often give their family old hens or roosters. So my grandpa would chop the heads off and let them run around. The kids would all gather around to watch the show.

That seems like a perfect location! Love it out there.

Elizabeth, Your Hubby might want to check out Macy's. They have a hard time getting folks that want to work those hours and they seem to prefer an older sales rep vs. the highschool age worker, especially in the Men's dept. And YES on the chick pics!

Can't wait to get mine the end of next week!

I'll let him know about Macy's. How many chicks are you getting? That's so exciting! You will have to post some photos for sure! Do you still have a few chicks from your shipped eggs or did that not turn out well?

Elizabeth, I know!! My sister said thats what she was doing and I didnt beleive her. I went over and said 'I think you made a mistake, those are my girls, the bigger hens are picking at them so I let them run loose this morning, etc etc' And she point blank refused to let me have them. I was only like 6 pullets, but they were hand raised and really sweet. Bah.
My mom's working at a warehouse out in somewhere. Im looking at that as an option just because they will pay good and accept me with little experience.

Oh my gosh Lacey - it sounds like it's time to band them with the bands that have numbers on them. She can't fight you then but she can take the bands off though. How can neighbors even act like this? I know she's most likely enjoying the eggs but really now!
