Nevadans?

Yea, poor DH. He's been sooo understanding (as I add more and more to my "Honey do" list).
Trying to resist for the rest of the season since I have 12 more coming in spring and no coop to put them in yet. But they are just so darn cute!!!!!

oh, the poor DH population!
I have had to turn to my 16 year old for any additions.

I think I am going to have to separate the rooster with another add on -

He is way too affectionate with the hens!

The kids are upset about the hens lost feathers!

Yea, before all the kids moved out a lot of this stuff could be done with their help! Our oldest son, when he was 16, dug out most of the foundation for our sunroom in our old house and our youngest son excavated most of the pond. With the soil being made up of mostly clay, that was no small feat!
Our oldest still talks about it and that was 9 years ago. He says he's never digging anything ever again! I hope his wife doesn't ever want a sunroom or pond.

DH does, however, love to brag about how fit he is at his age and his new job doesn't give him a lot of physical exercise so these projects will help keep him in shape. That and the dancing that we both love to do...

Laceynoelle,

Have you tried yoga? I've had similar episodes over the years but my dad taught me a chant, kind of like what you do in yoga. You just say to yourself "I'm sleepy, I'm tired" until you fall asleep. It's not quite that easy...the other thoughts keep trying to creep in and you have to stop them and return to the chant. After you get in the habit of stopping the stray thoughts, it works quite well. My 12 year old said it doesn't work for him but I think that's just because he dosen't try to stop the stray thoughts. It has worked quite well for me over the years.

Good luck.

Hello fellow Nevadans.

How's has everyone been doing?

I thought that I would let you guys know about my latest predicament. My wife made a deal with a guy to provide him chickens for a survival seminar/workshop (that the birds aren't going to survive, if you know what I mean!) and all that we have left are purebred/project roosters. So here's the deal, if anyone is interested, I have a Black Copper Maran, white-crested blue Polish, light Brahma, Sumatra, EE, 2 olive eggers roosters with possibly some others. I you want any of these and can provide me with a full grown replacement bird (rooster or hen) they are yours to take. I just hate to see some out of state bloodline purebred just be eaten if someone can use them. No attackers in the bunch, they are just the extras and good, healthy birds. Please me know ASAP because he will be picking up the birds on Friday. My wife has kept me busy with the 'downsized' goat herd today. She is up to 5 mamas, 6 babies, and a little buckling. Man, this is the best goat milk ever and I don't usually like goat milk!

Some of the pics are old so if you want a new pic of a certain bird just let me know and I will get it for you. I'll try and get some newer pics taken and uploaded because they are older, bigger, and better looking now plus I didn't have pics of all of them. Have a great week everybody.

I can't have roos or I'd take some them! Actually I worked it out with my neighbors so that I can keep one roo out of my ameraucana order that's coming in spring but that will be it. Good luck finding homes for them!

My wife and daughter saw Seramas the last couple of days. So I give you all three guesses as to what I am shopping for! I thought I would start with the folks in or near Reno, or Nevada. I am looking for Silkies, I much prefer black, pair of mature or nearly mature unrelated no larger than class B. Mainly because these are going to be a combination pets and a source for me to learn. I need a source of hatching eggs so that I can get some experience under my belt before I start trying to hatch some serious eggs.
I do plan on producing chicks so any help in getting such birds from any source would be appreciated. I already know they are 1. expensive, 2 do not breed true for anything, and three are more difficult to keep than other chickens. I am the type that is not happy with things being easy. anyone can do easy lol.
Oh by the way my run is almost complete. ran out of staples yesterday or it would be done expect the roof. can't decide just what to do for a roof. Solid or just wire. So anyone in Reno Tahoe or vicinity that have already had to deal with weather or what not please cast a vote for solid or wire roof to the run. I plan to cover it with 1/2 inch mesh hardware cloth ATM. But that stuff is expensive and I would rather save it for making cages, brooders and what not if I am going to go with a solid roof.

Edited to add this. this is an example of where I hope to go with chicken breeding.

Oh My Gosh! That roo is gorgeous!!!!! We haven't worried about covering our run with anything but I kept the babies in a brooder (unless supervised) 'til they were too old to be taken by our local birds of prey. Our coop is raised up off the ground though so there is plenty of room for them to go under it for shade and to escape the rain etc.
They do need a good sized area outside to get some shade and relief from rain or snow as well. So if I were you I'd cover about half of the run for this purpose but leave a sunny area uncovered so they can warm up on cool days (like yesterday, brrrr).
We need pics of the finished coop!

SD, I am a really warm blooded person so Reno has "Cool" weather for me all year round. My family was out helping me put wire on the walls of the run yesterday and we all came in not able to get warmed up again. I am soooooooo ready for summer! I was thinking about half and half myself and like that idea. I have to have the whole top covered cause the Grey Jungle fowl that will be in it eventually fly and are fairly wild temperament. I had to build a double door entry as well so they do not bolt out when you are going in or out.
I plan to build a smaller run and coop for the Serama next to it later. Will see how well it goes with keeping them.

I just moved back to Las Vegas and was wondering if anyone knew of a feed store near flamingo the 93 95
