Got you at the top of my list. A candling this morning has 4 suspect eggs (Salmon Faverolles) not making it to lockdown and possibly just one reject Marans, although the latter are SO hard to tell anything, and especially at a Day 5 candling. Day 10 is when I do my first culling and then right at lockdown is the second. Until then it's kind of a check-to-make-sure-nothing-smells duty watch. Saw a couple of good-n-blobby eyes, though, on the SF's. Even "Token" the hitchhiking TJ egg has some veinwork going.
I was SO close on the 3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch contest "How many eggs set?" guess. 3416 eggs were set. I guessed 3523 (107 over). The winner, though, has to be under and the guess was 3123 (293 under). Next guessing contest is how many of those eggs will hatch....
Okay, Now I'm just sounding egg-obsessed. It's Saturday... Time to go play!

Ahhhh... The joys of living in an HOA. Even though nobody but me and DH will see the coop, we had to submit plans to the Architectural Review Committe for the newest addition to the backyard. Unfortunately, the HOA has pretty high standards and so we decided to go the prefab coop route because I know how they feel about improvised, even though I love building when time permits. To complicate matters, our entrance gate(s) to the backyard are 3' 3" wide, thereby limiting what can be trucked back there. We decided we wanted larger and so have opted for a kit from an Amish company and then decided on bells-and-whistles (run, undercoop panels, wheels to move it around the property....great to get it in the shade in the summer). Thank goodness fate was kind and handed me some plum jobs this week (All-day and many, many attorneys ordering copies) which will fund this project. What we like about this kit is that it's all put together with screws, so when it comes time to move you can bet I'm taking the second house with us..... We're even going to install a fan in there for the summer. Lucky chickens.
