I am so excited for Darby and you.

I know you are wanting to make cheese and stuff.............are you pulling the babies and bottle feeding them full time OR just pulling them at night to milk in the morning.

Ah milking.............it is an experience and Darby will be tiny teated - my hands cramp just thinking about it, she will probably just need a finger or two and your thumb to milk her out.

But what a delight it is - fresh milk...........and to me goats milk is yummy and creamy. Start getting your milking supplies now, you don't wanna be running around at the last moment looking for glass jars and stainless steel pails, cheeseclothe for straining, plus teat dip. OH - and start getting Darby use to a milking stand and you fussing with her - so she is not a kicky girl.....you don't wanna have to be leaning down to milk - it will kill your back. And kicking over your milk pail or putting her foot into it.............well it will spoil your day.

And because it is me asking, I have to know - do you have a goat vet lined up just in case there are problems with the delivery.........not that I think there will be, but just as a precaution.

I honestly havent decided how we want the baby to feed. I feel like they would be MOST sociable if we bottlefed, but i have other people telling me that they/it will be fine if we just handle it everyday and keep darby locked up so they dont learn to run from me. I think id like to milk in the morning though at least to get me used to doing it full time. I plan on getting milking supplies soon, but had forgotten about having to get jugs and things, haha, ive just been told we will get such a small amount of milk

I also think I am going to sell abner and darby a few weeks after the babies come and use a formula and a feeding schedule.

No I havent found a goat vet. I went to greens feed and asked if they had and "goat people" listings but they couldnt help me. I ended up buying a book that tells me everything with a million scenarios of things that can go wrong and two scenarios of things that can go right

I plan on reading this thing back to front a hundred times before may but ill also keep searching for a goat vet

well dont everyone get excited anymore

This morning Darby woke up the neighborhood at 6 am again and let off the mating alarm. It took me a half hour to wrangle her and at the point the neighbors were all glaring out their windows again (two story houses with full views of my yard

) Mark and I had a very real very serious conversation and have decided to sell the goats despite our adventure last night. I think they are cute and funny as all get out but i do not like them and they are causing me too much stress. They are so unfriendly and its absolutely aggrivating spending money on an animal that will not give back with affection. Were going to sell them and use the money for the coop so i can focus on the thing that truly makes me happy and that is the birds. I wish i was sadder about this descision but to be perfectly honest i am relieved. Sorry to dissapoint you all, i was really looking forward to my cheese adventure but its not worth the stress. Lst night i had a dream that Darby was screaming and i awoke and jumped out of bed to go get her before i realized that it was just my brain warping marks labored snoring.
