NV thread! Boy, you other Nevada folks sure have some funny ideas about Dayton! FYI there is no "City Hall", as there is no city! Other than Yerington, the county seat, I don't think there are any incorporated cities in Lyon County (I'm not even sure about Yerington)!

Anyway, whereabouts are you kellee? I'm off Rainbow Drive on the far end of Dayton (east Hwy 50). I have 31 chickens, three roosters and the rest are hens (need any eggs?

). If you are over in the Mark Twain area, north side of 50 around Rainbow Drive, there are no restrictions on owning chickens over there, other than you are prohibited from having a commercial poultry operation (whatever that means!). I used to live over there on a half-acre lot and I even raised a couple of hogs. A neighbor did have a rooster that he got complaints about though. But he didn't have to get rid of it, just did it to be neighborly, I guess.

Whew! Just caught up - and I only missed a few days! Man you all are chatty!

The resin shed is awesome Aubrey! I was wanting to get one of those myself but they are sooo expensive new - for the price of one of those I was able to build a much larger coop (well, if you don't count the "cost" of an aching back for several nights in a row!).

Missy where did you order your seeds from? I just got a Gurney's catalog - I've ordered from them in the past and been very happy with what I got. But I'd like to check some other places for variety. I'd love to see pics of your garden if you have any! Always looking for new ideas.

All this food talk was making me really hungry - until Sunny started talking about colons!

Sheryl I cracked up over your comment on that subject!

ETA: Love the pics of the little ones, Peep. Sunny is right: you need to get away from those HOA Nazis and come live out in the country up here. Winters are a little rough but all you need is a 4WD, a variety of coats in various weights (which you always carry with you in your 4WD!), and a wood stove.

Colon talk never kills my appetite! I wish it did, I'd be skinny for sure coming from the family I do!

Ron,

I am off 6 mile but not on the Storey County side. However Storey County / Mark Twain is about 1/4 mile so we are kinda in no mans land. Some refer to it as Mark Twain and others don't. I knew that Lyon county had fired it's code enforcer a few years back and can not afford to hire a new one, but I just wanted to make sure in case they ever find the funding to change that.

I am amazed at your 31 chickens I was finally able to talk my house into 5-7 and they still think I am crazy, but I am use to that. Do they have free reign of your property or do you hav a coop area for them?

Morning everyone on this beautiful nice sorta warm morning. Hope everyone is doing well.

I order my seeds from the New England Seed Company. They have stuff I've never seen before and stuff I always get too. They get their seeds from all over the world so I always order my Italian seeds through them. It's funny because the packages are written in all sorts of languages along with Italian of course. I get my zucchinni from them and they are the best around. The family has always planted the greybeards and I couldn't find them anymore until I found these guys.

My MIL bought 3 zucchinni plants from somewhere here in Reno and she planted the seeds I always get and she ended up pulling out her bought plants because they did not produce like the ones I get from Italy. She said she was sold on them and for me to make sure I have plenty of them around. We're suppose to let 1 zucchinni grow out and get the seeds from it but we never do. We only pick them instead. We get too excited when they are ready for picking and we just can't leave them there.

Hey Kellee, that's where I used to live - actually right on 6 Mile Canyon Rd just east of Riverboat. The Plat Map for my house identified it as being in Mark Twain Estates. So no, I wasn't talking about the Storey County area. Anyway, I did research the zoning maps before I got my pigs and for some reason that area is zoned the same as areas with 1 acre and larger lots. So no problems with the county for chickens! Unless you are in the newer homes north of 6 Mile - I'm not sure about the zoning in that area. But from the north side of 6 Mile south to Hwy 50 you're good to go, Code Enforcer or not!

I don't allow mine to free range. There are way too many predators where I am now. But I do have large enclosed runs for them.

Park Seed is my old standby. If there is a variety that I really want from another catalog, I cross-check it with Park, and it's always cheaper. I really like Burpee, but I'm noticing lately how expensive they are, so I'm not ordering much from them now. This year I'm trying Territorial Seed... first year trying the seed, but I got some magnificent tomato plants last year that grew well. They're also more expensive than Park for the same varieties, so I'm just buying what Territorial has that Park doesn't. As far as potatoes, I just hit up Lowe's. And the $1 packets of seeds at Walmart still have a great germination rate.

I have lots of garden pics. Is there anything in particular that you want to see, so I don't totally hijack the thread? Last year we had in-ground crops, planterbox crops, and bucket crops.

Oh I love this company! I got seeds from them before and they have varieties I can't find anywhere else. This time I am dying to try the Italian eggplants. The have 2 varieties I am interested in. They say they sow well indoors so I will need to empty out the potting shed/green house so I can start a bunch of stuff early. I can't stick with just one catalog though I like a variety.

All this talking about seeds today made me go ahead and order them for this year. I'm excited to get them and to get started on the plants this year.
