Nevadans?

Good sleuthing Sheryl! I found him on google!

The image tag says perigrine falcon but it doesn't really look like them because perigrines have solid colored backsides and this guy is fully barred.

You had a juvenile one then so the feathers were not quite in the proper colors. You got very lucky too, a falcon will hit the bird first and knock it out and will circle around and pick it up and take it away. I'm glad your girl was able to get away from it. A falcon is the fastest bird known.

Hmmm I did a google search of juvenile peregrines and they are much darker than the adults. It was definitely whatever that bird I posted above was. No doubt about it. The colors are all wrong for peregrines of any age

Yep Missy. From what I just read they are just pretty carp.

I knew they were cannibals cause I used to have shubunkin goldfish and tried to raise their fry. BTW the books are wrong when they say to just give the fry plenty of hiding places that the adults can't enter. The babies never read the books that tell them they are supposed to stay in their hidey holes. They also lie when they say to add the fry back in with the adults when they are 1-2 inches. I even tried a separate tank but they ate them at 2 to 3 inches too!

Huh, I didn't know that catfish were herbivores, I thought they ate whatever they come across. I remembered that the carp Lake Mead were big enough to eat a ducklings, and I think my grandfather was the one who told me about it but he hates carp anyways.

Well since they are omnivores and they do get pretty huge, I believe your Grandpa! The are a nasty fish I have to say. Horribly invasive!

OK in double checking about catfish I came across this really awesome photo!

Who knew catfish could get so huge!!!

Yeah, could be a goshawk. There must be different varieties though cause that pic looks totally different than this artist's rendering of a goshawk.
