Nevadans?

Thanks much for welcoming me!

I forgot my parents are renting the house, and after a chat with my dad I found out that they are not allowed to have any animals

My plan falls through until my parents get their own place...
Thanks anyways and I will keep an eye out and hopefully soon in this near future will make it happen!

Awwww, what a bummer! What village is she from? I wonder if there is a farmer around that could give you a CSA subscription, or a regular shipment of fresh eggs for her.

Kim, I only looked for houses on 10 acres or more. lol I did see condos in the DMZ for as little as $18,000 but who would want to live in them?

Peep says be careful of Henderson since some of the HOAs out there are not chicken friendly.

I think an acre would be the minimum yes? I did see a house on 1 acre out in Antelope Valley but that is really far from all services (even in Red Rock we are 12 mins from a small store but Antelope Valley is at least 25 mins away from anything). It was pretty cheap though. It could be a misprint. I didn't realize that any houses out there were on such small lots.

Sheryl in that article you linked a few weeks ago they talked about what the minimum amount of land, here in Reno, was to be automatically considered Hobby Farm size. These folks are allowed to raise crops and animals for sale just because of their lot size. I'll try to find it again to remind myself of what it said.

We have the nerdiest family in the world, I swear! I found the most perfect Valentine's gift... from a catalog randomly sent in hopes I might buy something. When I found it in the mail, I almost jumped up and down, it was so perfect. This company sells award-winning lectures, in audio or DVD format. Yes, we are really THAT nerdy. I married a genius who spends his free time on philosophy forums. Thankfully, he also enjoys doing martial arts as a family, and going to arts-and-hippies venues.

I told him what he was getting, so he could pick which course he wanted, and he chose one we could do together. "Optimizing Brain Fitness," only $20.

I've been receiving that catalog for years. Thought it was pretty mainstream but I guess I was wrong? They have something for everyone in there. Great courses. I don't think you need to be a total nerd to love them. lol My brother and I are into the history DVDs but my youngest son loves the Astronomy DVDs.

Hey in the Bay Area we used to attend lectures at one of the local community colleges (open to the public, no reservations required) does TMC do that? These lectures were very interesting and were quite reasonable too. Usually only around $5-$10 each. Better than most of the movies out in the theaters these days but that may just be my age talking. The older you get the harder it is to find a movie plot you haven't seen a hundred times over.

Haha, if it's age then I'm doomed. I have a hard time finding a book that doesn't have a recycled theme or plotline.

I searched through the thread and couldn't find it. I can't remember if there was any minimum requirement, the only thing I remember for sure is the land needs to be in the unincorporated area of Reno in order to open up a stand in the front yard to sell your goods. No meat though allowed, just gardens and eggs.

Well, then I guess John and I are super Nerdy too. We tear up when we watch motivational speakers or at least I do, John won't ever admit to it even though he has tears in his eyes.

I remember the post. It was when we were all excited about the possibility of selling our eggs, maybe our vegetables. And that guy on the RGJ site had the closed-minded comment about the market stands being low-class. The article talked about county roadside stands, and the possibility for expansion into city laws.

Strombergs just called and said they are shipping my chicks out today!!! I never heard of shipping chicks this time of year! They are due Friday. Luckily Friday is supposed to be 60 degrees here in Reno but they are shipping form Pine River, Minnesota where it will be -1 degree tonight! I sure hope they are in a heated truck or building! Next time I order from them I will request a spring shipment. They must hatch chicks out all the time. I just ordered them yesterday!

The truck should at least be above freezing, but more than that...

Maybe the driver will be nice and let them ride up with him, since it'll be obvious that they're live animals.

How are everyone's seed orders coming along? Park Seed just shipped out the last of my seeds, except for my potatoes. I'll probably get them local, or see how much shipping would be from the Maine Potato lady. So if anyone wants to swap seeds, I'm open to it. Or we can swap seedlings later, too.
