Nevadans?

Sheryl, do your ducks lay in the nesting boxes the chickens use? Also, I was wondering if you would consider breeding with hatchery ducks. I saw some in the McMurray catalog, and I knew you'd rather not, but there seems to be a shortage of WH drakes.

Yes Missy they do. I will breed with hatchery ducks for other people but not for me to keep. I'm keeping the show quality of these ducks so if people want to show them they can.

The WH's is on the critical list of duck breeds so it's extremely hard to find them and it's even harder finding the SQ ones. I got lucky getting these. I'm going to do the spiral breeding and will be bringing in new stock for the B and C group. The trio I have is the A group. I should be fine with them after studying the breeding issues and concerns.

Good to know!

Sheryl I saw Welsh Harlequins in the Stromberg's catalog also. They are known for their quality fowl but this is the first time I've ordered from them so I can't speak from experience.

There is a breeder in Corvallis, Oregon and he has SQ WH's in the silver and gold, mine are silver, I was thinking of bringing in for my B and C group but I must talk to Heather to find out where she bought her trio.

Spiral breeding is very interesting once you learn how to do it. You usually only let the drake breed twice and then switch him out with another drake from the B or C groups but I'm going to keep my drake until I'm ready to start the other 2 groups.

John's going to build the area for this to all happen. I getting really excited to start this new adventure.

Hello everyone!

I know I'm a bit out of the blue here, but after long

disappointing searches I ended up here... Sooooo....
It is my mom's birthday today, and I'd like to get her some chickens as a present. My mom grew up in a village and has raised many farm animals including chickens, and she's been talking about getting some chickens to keep in the backyard here in Vegas, they even have this perfect area where they want to set up a little coop to lay eggs and all.
I presume you (or some of you) have either fertilized eggs

or some chickens I could buy?
If you could, pretty please let me know, and if it can't happen today... no problem. A late present will still be better than nothing

P.S. I don't mind taking an hour drive, but if there are any here in Las Vegas, it would be oh so lovely!
P.P.S. Duck or quail would also work.

Welcome, Marsel! I'm up north so can't help you but maybe someone else can.

Thank you!
Yes, I was too late for one, and another I'm waiting for a reply.
There are some with geese... Are geese any harder to take care of than chickens?

I forgot my parents are renting the house, and after a chat with my dad I found out that they are not allowed to have any animals

My plan falls through until my parents get their own place...
Thanks anyways and I will keep an eye out and hopefully soon in this near future will make it happen!

Thank you!

I've heard that geese are similar to ducks in the amount of care they need. They are bigger so they need more room but are great "watch dogs". Some folks say they are even better than watch dogs at letting you know when someone is on your property since they honk up a storm whenever someone arrives. They do poop and eat a LOT more than ducks or chickens though.
