You guys are completely out of control...

Missy I am so jealous! Can I see them when they're a little bit older??? Please please PLEASEEEE!!!????

So call my cold hearted but I evicted the babies. I couldn't take it anymore. They're the same size as mom now (I think they will be standard or a little smaller). They may be a little young for this weather but I was counting on them huddling under the heat lamp near the water. Well so far so good, last night was night #2. Checked on em around midnight and the naked neck had her head tucked under moms wing and the other two were snuggled close. So far so good I guess. Bless my big girls, they've left the babies well enough alone.

Augh! So! Sunday night some college kids down on kings row were partying all night. Full on rager- LOUD- all night. Porkchop started crowing around 11:00 pm and kept on until 3:00am! I think it's because that house was being loud and every light was on. I thought last night would be better but it was worse! Porkchop AND chompy at 12:00am!!!! Why is this happening???? Porkchop has never done this in the middle of the night! I put them in a tiny cramped cat carrier so they couldn't stretch out and crow and it worked but I don't wanna have to worry about doing that every night...

I have some big babies that need to go out too. They are younger than your's but are large marans. I keep waiting for temps to come up just a little more though. It's so, so cold out there right now.

Sorry about the disruptions! That's not fun. I had a roo once that crowed loudly, non-stop, day and night. He was the brother of the ameraucana roos I gave to Kim and Ron. Clyde and Poppy were pretty noisy too but they couldn't hold a candle to how annoying Napoleon was!

My Clyde? He was a pretty thing though. But he was so loud and crowed at grass growing!

I forgot 3 chicks the other night and it was really cold. Was affraid I'd killed them the next morning, but when I went out they were fine. I don't have a growout pen at the moment, so I had make a round wire makeshift enclosure and ut them in there during the day for a couple of days, then forgot them. They came in for one more night, but they went crazy when I let them back out, so I stuck a nesting box in with them and they're fine. BTW, does anyone need a blue copper roo?? He's nice, but has clean legs, darn it. The other little roo I have in there is one of my lavender egg roject babies. I have some with peacombs and some with single. The hens that lay those eggs have single, so it's all an experiment this year. Again!

Soooooo...........Copied some of you guys one liners on facebook. Thanks! LOL

Of course you can see them! I'm allowing visitation right when the eyes open... a week or so, probably. I've been handling them just a couple of times a day, just to count them and check on health, and the kids just get to watch. I feel like saying, "Neener neener, I get to touch a bunny and you DON'T!!!" There are still 4 and they're still squeaky little wiggles! Russ and I are talking about looking for a second breeding doe, now that this one is successful. But I really want one of those champagne colored ones that I saw at Seth's rabbit show last year. I'd have to get a male and a female, since my buck is spotted brown, so it might have to wait.

I'm tempted to ask if I can try out more fertile eggs this year. By the end of my 3rd round of eggs last year, I was DONE with the frustration and the heat. But now I have the hatching bug again! We want to do ducks (for food) since they grow up SO FAST that they won't be around longer than 8 weeks. We're still thinking about it, though.

Poppy usually doesn't start in 'til around 3:30 or 4:00. But they are far enough away from the house that I really don't hear it. If I wasn't already awake doing one of my switches from lying on the painful side of my back to the non-pain side, I wouldn't even know it was happening!

so chicharo has an upper respiratory infection. his lungs are clear. the vet gave him some antibiotics and a supplement to boost his immune system. if he does not improve with that, she'll want to run bloodwork to see if more is going on that has his immune system compromised since it's unusual for him to have gotten this since he's not around other cats.

i'm getting ready for the kids' birthday party tomorrow. i used fondant to make the hello kitty decoration and the t-rex skeleton for the cakes. it was pretty fun. i have to make the cakes tonight and then frost and assemble the fondant decorations tomorrow.
We have babies!!!

I looked in this morning, and there was a pile of fur in the corner of the kennel that mama rabbit is in. I'm glad she had them there, because she's been using the "box" I put in for her bathroom, and now I can just take that box and dump it to keep things fresh. I don't know exactly how many babies, but I saw one pink one moving around in the fur, and 2 black and another pink moving outside of the nest, so I just reached in long enough to put those three in the nest. Then I kicked my daughter of out her room, put a space heater in there, and shut the door. (It's super cold in the room, and I don't want to lose babies just because it's mama's first time.)

So right now we have at least 4 moving, healthy babies. I didn't dig in the nest to count more, and the nest is FAR back in the kennel. I just left her alone.

yay! congrats!
is it just me or does every single lady on here have a storey that starts with "when i used to sing.....", maby in a few years they will discover that people that like to sing are at a higher risk of getting addicted to chickens

I like singing too but not professionally. Just in musicals and choirs...
Look who I found laying her egg in the scratch today!

and for flaming chicken too. My kids will love the shampoo one.

maybe it was a reaction to the noise on the party night. hopefully they will settle down. i remember when i had that silkie roo and brought him in every night in the cat carrier. that got old pretty fast.

LOL! Clyde definitely wasn't quiet! That's for sure!

You're welcome. I sure would love some lavender egg layers! None of the ones I got from you laid a lavender egg. They all lay a laid a brown egg.

The lady we got our rabbit from held him every day and he was the sweetest and friendliest thing! We loved him so much! If you're raising them for meat it might not be a good idea though.

Yeah Poppy was the quietest one of that trio for sure. That's why I kept him. Figured he wouldn't bother the neighbors too much. Didn't count on the one horrible neighbor with the pits that barked non-stop all night being such a witch.

Glad Chicharo's lungs are clear. Hope the antibiotics take care of it!

Has it already been a year since they turned 5? Wow time flies! Tell them we said "Happy Birthday"!!!
