Nevadans?

If you are on Six Mile Canyon Rd (either side) or anywhere south to Highway 50 then you are good to go. That is one of the areas where it is zoned the same as 1 acre + lots even though the lots there are typically either ¼ or ½ acre in size. If you are in the newer homes north of Six Mile (typically .10 acre or less) then you would be rogue but, as I said before, you would probably get away with it anyway.

I'm in the newer section, but don't have anyone behind us, so I go smooze the neighbors and see what there thoughts are. What kind of chickens do the best in this weather?

Hi everyone, I'm new to BYC and new to Dayton, NV. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know the name of the community, but I live off six mile canyon rd. we rent so I have to convince the landlord to allow it also. Feel like I have everything against me right now. I'm from Vegas and the laws weren't even as strict there!!
Well good luck with the landlord! Hopefully they are fine with chickens. :)

BYC has a nice breed finder tool under the Breeds tab. They don't have all the breeds of chickens listed but it is still a great tool to start with.

We just ordered 16 hatching eggs: 4 each of French Black Copper Marans, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, Olive Eggers, and Lavender Orpingtons. We're hoping to get a Black Copper Maran rooster out of the deal, as well as several pullets.
Do you want me to take you off my list for BCMs and lavender orps Mary? We have been working on the breeding pens and will be done this weekend which means we will start hatching a month from now. If so just let me know since I have others on the list behind you and I can move them up if you don't need chicks anymore.

I find that anything that isn't bred in a tropical region is good to go. English, New England, European, or Australian breeds are hardy and are super egg producers.

Yes, please take me off your list. I'm sorry for the confusion. I needed to order sooner than later because of my class schedule. We'll be incubating these eggs in the Preschool classrooms I teach. Again, SO sorry for the confusion. Thanks very much for your offer. If for some reason we don't get a good hatch, I'll check back with you and see if you'd have any chicks at that point. I realize we'll be at the back of the list. Thanks again!

No problem. I used to hatch chicks for my students when I taught too. My students loved it! I'm sure the kids will be very excited.

Guess who just got a pair of bantam SLW this guy!!!!!!!!

Congrats!

Hey Seth, Tyler hooked me up with a lady who has a pair of satins for sale: a blue buck and a chinchilla doe. She's asking $20 for the pair. I have to go to Fernley to get them, but it seems like a pretty good deal. The pelts will be beautiful! I figured I'd process my spotted New Zealand buck, since he's from the same stock that my New Zealand doe, and use the blue satin for siring. What do you think?
