Nevadans?

Candace! Welcome to the Nevada thread. I'm so sorry to hear about your little chickie and for getting all these different answers from us, our answers are always based on what we've learned on here and in our own backyards of course and they're so many of them. How cold is the garage? You said your little chickie was limping first. Perhaps the chickie got cold and curled it's foot which could have caused the tendon to move off the bone?

Elizabeth, hoping your kitty gets better really soon.

I agree whith sheryl have you checked its feet? I Have a chicken with curled toes and she is happy as a clam but she walked funny as a chick but now she is FAST. Also I used to have a batam polish i got from Sunny but sadly she was born with a foot defect that made it hard for her to walk.

I look over the leg/foot each time I check on him, also manipulating it and seeing at what point he will pull back. No trike with the hip area, but from there down he has little control over moving. It has been eating/drinking well and can stand alert when it wants. Just tips or throws out a wing to try to catch its self before falling. Are there other common signs of mareks? My silkies have always slept sprawled out with their faces almost tucked in the shavings, which he is still doing. Neck movement is normal. Eyes look clear. If you talk to him he looks at you.. I'm trying to describe his behavior the best I can, sorry if its over kill lol. How would I know if it's a tendon issue? Just wait and see?
He had no issues moving up until Monday.. He was actually the big mean bully of the chicks, definitely very active.

hmm so i belive we have rulled out genetic so far have you done reasearch about other diseases? And where did you get these silkies and for what purpous

I've done tons of Internet research with its symptoms, mareks, Afew other diseases with no cute, vitamin deficiency.. The list goes on forever :/
mo purchased from a breeder in Tennessee, as pets/hobby.. I contacted her, said she hasn't had a mareks case for several years. Did they pick it up somewhere along though postal route?! Seems unlikely, but who knows (if it's even mereks)
i was ignorant to think they would be simple, cute, fluffy chickens lol.

A tendon issue would be very obvious. I had a bird with a slipped tendon and it does not go back into place at all, so your chikie definitely wouldnt be able to stand on it. Id say that because she acts nomal half the time I wouldnt see any harm in giving her poly-vi-sol daily. I had a couple of showgirls who had the head bob that this cured them of completely...one of them is almost 3 years old and is happily poking around the backyard. I think if it were mareks your other chicks would have it. I am assuming for now its just a thing! I dont really think head trauma in the silkies vaulted skull would only affect one of the legs like that. Im really thinking vitamin deficiency here :/

Upon reading your first post again i think it could also be an injury... Its something that happens a lot when shipping chicks that age. The one with the slipped tendon that i was talking about actually accuired that injury from being shipped at 4 weeks old. Their legs are lankier and they can hurt eachother being tossed around.... couldve happened any time between shipment and being moved around at home? Idk i just dont think its mareks...

A lot of times our babies get injured or ill and we spend a lot of time on the internet and come to the conclusion that they have the worst possible thing. BYC can sort of be like WEB MD for chickens, haha.... I seriously wouldnt worry too much if the other chicks are fine

Just got home from Valentine's dinner... The silkie chick was standing like normal, and poop is less more of a yellowish brown. About to give some poly-vi-sol, is there a certain amount for a chick? I will google it also :) at dinner the breeder emailed me back saying it was most likely marecks, and I was super bummed out.. Coming home to this cheered me up bit :) keep those fingers crossed!!!
