Yes actually I thought that would be a better plan. Two feed stores told me that I would have to order 25 and I would end up paying MORE than if I had the birds shipped directly to me because they wanted the mark up price I guess because calling and ordering for me took a lot extra effort!  That didnt make much sense. One feed store did offer to let me order but I wouldn't be able to get the chicks until the end of March and I wasn't too impressed with the look of Privett's stock of brahma's.  After paying their mark up for 10 chicks, I would be paying about the same as I would if I bought 25 chicks from McMurray shipped to me. I found one feed store that HAD brahma's but of course sold out and it was in Kingman so I would have to make that drive on the weekend and who wants to drive for 2.5 hours only to have the chicks gone when I arrived.

Still hopeful though that something will come along. 

We got brahmas a couple years ago from a feed store in Carson. They got different breeds in a couple times a week. Do you want chicks or older pullets?

I have an incubator with eggs in it right now but wasnt able to find brahma eggs when I set these. It just isnt meant to be I guess for brahma's. Decided not to go and look at the 2+ year old gals.

Yes! that is our plan to stay in Fallon. Hopefully we will get more response from the community of Fallon this year. Once you move a venue (date and location) it takes a little while to recover. Luckily some of our true die hard Poultry Fanciers from California came to our last show and they had nothing negative to say about the new time and place so they will tell others and I expect the show to grow again. One of the fanciers that comes and supports all of our shows is Walt Leonard who is on the American Poultry Association board and his picture is in the American Standard of Perfection(poultry bible everyone that breeds or shows should own one or two ) The scary part is if we build up a show back to over 800 entries like we had in 2012 we nearly killed our handful of volunteers, that's a huge show for us. We really need to figure out how to grow our active club membership(I think that is with most clubs). We have a handful of 6-7 core members, it is a labor of love that is for sure.

One thing that we did gain by moving to Fallon is support from the local FFA and 4-H clubs, we had a lot of volunteers for clean up which was much appreciated. Agriculture is much more embraced in Fallon(I grew up there) than it ever was in Reno. SO I truly believe we are on the right path here. The barn is big enough to grow, Rich Hutchings(property owner) is very nice and supports us. We need to get some fundraising going so if anyone has any ideas we would love to hear them. We need to purchase more plywood and build table supports(right now we rent tables and it is very pricey).

We would like to get more vendors/crafters too, that will help to draw the public to our shows and even though we don't charge an entry fee it really helps to the all around public interest. I had contacted the local Lattin Farms down the road to see if we could do a partnership to promote their farm and our show but no response, we will try again. We will also contact the Big R and a couple of other feed stores to see if they would sponsor us for free advertisement at the show. Lots of foot work to do still. thanks for asking!!!

It would probly be easier this year if we just used more waterfowl cages haha

Well if you want contact Sara see if she can help you, tell her that Julie Peterson referred you.... I'm not sure which hatcheries she orders from but I bet if you explained your situation she might be able to accommodate you. I have heard feed stores requiring a minimum for special chick orders but 25 is a bit high, 5 seems more fair. If Sara can order for you the week before you arrive I could pick them up and hold them for you until you arrive maybe if that helps?? Let me know, my first batch of chicks will be hatching next weekend and I will be hatching every weekend for quite a while... so easy to slip a couple of extras into my brooder.(actually I have 4-hers lined up to do some brooding for me )

I have contemplated raising exhibition quality Light Brahmas but they take so long to mature and feathered feet are so difficult to maintain for showing purposes.... But I sure love the calm nature of Brahmas. We had a feed store Lt Brahma that lived to be 9 years old, she was definitely a special pet. And if you end up getting extras you can always sell pullets at one of our swaps!! if you move here that is

I have olandsk in the bator on a staggered hatch to keep the eggs from sitting on the counter too long. One hatched on day 17 . That was a surprise!

I have project bantam Andalusians in the incubator. Just started them this past Wednesday so I still have a ways to go before they're even close.

I may have andalusion eggs in my bator as part of my mixed eggs I bought. I have no plans to keep them. If you want them should they hatch, your welcome to them
