Okay, a story?
Once upon a time...i got nothin'. i guess the brain juices arent flowing.

Oh. once upon a time a chick hatched out and it was half bantam cochin and half full size rhode island red. i wondered how that came to be. Ma and i watched and Mr. Bantam. (That was his name by the way. I had two bantys, Mr and Mrs) Mr. Bantam was a clever little guy. He would dust under the olive trees and make a bunch of those happy lookee here rooster noises. The hens would run over, determin there wasnt any treats, then take advantage of the lovely dusting area that just happened to be there.

Now all the hens were perfect level for good ole Mr. B. OVer the years he had a ton of little mixed babies out of those full sized hens. Australops, Americaunas, Rhode island reds, and Barred rocks.

Cute story!!!
Ok evonne, you caught me!

But I do like talking to all my Nevadan chicken folks out there and I did get a cute story about a wily rooster out of the deal. So it's a win-win for me!
laceynoelle if you want more chickens you can have my two Golden Lakenvelders. They are nervous girls and are very flighty but they are pretty and lay well! The eggs are small to med though. If your Dad is going to let you have more? Here's a pic...

can't take a frizzle/frazzle roo if he's black... i have a black frazzle hen already and you're not sposed to breed frizzle to frizzle.. that's how you get frazzle... 2 frizzle genes.. and they end up with brittle feathers that break...

if she can hold on to him a little longer thought i might be able to make him a holding pen and keep him until my mom can take him to by brothers house if washington...??

AHHHH!!!! So that's how it works! I really don't know a thing about frizzles or frazzles (hadn't even ever heard of frazzles before, didn't know if I was spelling frizzles right

) but thanks so much for the explanation. You're great! I don't know her plans for him beyond the fact she's looking to get rid of him. I can't take him, he crows too much! I've borrowed him for a week to help calm down my flock but he's kinda on the small side and my lead hen has him on the run.

I'm gonna try to take him back to her tomorrow and salvage some of his dignity while I still can. He's the dominant rooster at her house. Poor guy. I will talk to her and let you know.

I've sort of adopted 3 other 17 year olds in my time, why not 1 more! My current (I call him my foster son) adopted kid was 17 and his mother threw him out of the house! He is a friend of my youngest DS so we took him in 'til he could graduate and get on his feet. He's living with his sister now which I think is awesome (since she is the only family he is close to now and she knows exactly what he's gone through) but he still comes by often for a meal or a pep talk.
I don't get some parents, he was an almost straight A student, very polite and loved helping around the house with chores! Her main problems with him were he...
1) Didn't want to be a doctor (she felt if she was paying then he should be what she wanted), and 2) He loved riding skateboards and she felt like only bums rode skateboards, that it was not a worthy hobby for any intelligent person.
She was always yelling at him to go read a book instead. I mean c'mon! How hard is it to get a teenager that's that well behaved! Well he's not perfect (neither am I or DH or my DS for that matter) but life is hard enough to muddle through without throwing a kid out of his home at 17 for stupid reasons like that!
He called the cops when she did it and they said there was nothing they could do except call social services for him if he had no place to go! Who knew a parent could throw a kid out of the house legally? It's not legal for a kid to leave at 17 when it's their idea but a parent can just throw them out on the streets if they feel like it!!?
Anyway this has turned into quite a rant, sorry. He just called yesterday for help with something and said "You are more of a mother to me than my own Mom ever was..." things like that just break my heart and it's fresh in my mind this morning, so sorry for going on and on.

No its okay, its really messed up what she did to him. He sounds like a good kid, and thats just not what you do. I dont even like kids, but i wouldnt do that to one.

Seriously, you don't like kids? Why? To me they're the most honest of humans. They just say what's on their minds and I find that very refreshing. Obviously, I'm biased, I have 4 of my own and taught for many years.

They're loud and often smell. lol idk. a lot of people say whats on thier mind, but as they get older that just means theyre rude. See my point? And some kids are okay. The smart quiet ones. Ma says i'll probably grow out of it. the whole not likeing kids thing.
And right now a kid would be a really bad thing. picture yourself in my shoes. nearly 17. Big plans for the future. AP. The thought of a kid is simply terrifying. And i'd probably screw it up, too. not teach it the right things and stuff.

Oh! I didn't mean Having One! I thoroughly agree, you are way too young to be thinking about liking them enough to have one! My daughters were 28 and 29 when they had their first babies. My first was born right before my 21st birthday but I think that was still a little young. I had a ton more patience with my last kiddo and I was 31 when I had him.
