Nevadans?

Horsefeathers, I may take you up on the egg offer just for the practice. My entire plan is now two fold. I was trying to get some hatching experience before I try hatching Grey Jungle Fowl eggs in a year or so. Then in the process my wife and kids have fallen in love with the tiny little Seramas. Now they all stand around the incubator watching the number of eggs shrink wondering why I don't use some of my magic. Gotta know me to understand that but they all think I can do anything. By the way my kids are not young they are 17-23 but they all still think daddy can work miracles.

HorseFeathers, I

I'm with you there. I always fear I'm throwing out a baby chick. I was wondering if I affected this last 0 hatch by leaving clears in too long..... but the new development is.....

that stuck up rooster is not breeding the BV hens in the garage brooder properly.
pop.gif
(never thought I would say that!) And Apparently the hens are upset about being stuck in there because they are attacking the roos tail feathers at night, AND they have not layed eggs for two days!

All of my other hens have been very comfortable breeding and laying in this same brooder for a week and then turned out to the main coop!

Maybe its just someone telling me to take it slowly right now... Our 12 year old Akita is failing. She had slipped disks and nerve damage to her spine and can not walk. The pain meds have stopped working for the most part and we may put her to sleep this coming week. If it wasn't for the amount of pain she is in we would stretch out our time with her, it's hard to get up and decide

Flowers that is so hard! I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this.

Thanks everybody for all the nice comments about my brooder bump-out. We put a lot of work into it and I'm so glad that it is finally done! I don't know why these projects always take so long and become so involved!

But it's finished! Yeah! There is only enough roosting room for the 10 that are in there now so I will need to put in another roost once the little ones get big enough to join the others plus I have 15 more little ones coming this month to add to the three I got yesterday. 3 Welsummers, 5 more EEs and 7 ameraucanas. Next year I can hatch my own since I will keep one roo from this bunch.

Good luck with the hatches everyone or future hatches for those of you still trying.

Penturner, I know exactly how you feel. I'm a natural problem solver and as a result I still get the kids (that are 19, 25, 29 & 30 years), my sister, my folks, friends and even my DH expecting me to solve every problem they get stuck on. I keep saying that I need to quit doing their thinking for them but it seems to be a set pattern now and I'm not sure how to get them to start thinking of solutions instead of always seeing the problem only. It may be innate and I'm expecting their brains to work differently because mine does and that may never happen but if it can be learned I've probably been enabling them by helping too much. Who knows?
My parents swear it's just me and that I've been that way since I was born, always studying stuff and taking things apart to see how they work. Then again it may just be my ADHD. The one benefit of ADHD is that folks who suffer from it are usually very creative and I am just borderline so that helps with the concentration aspect some (although my family that has suffered from my hyper activity over the years might argue with the doctor that diagnosed me as "borderline").

Hey vegaschick, where are the pics of the new babies you promised us?

SERIOUSLY!!! I can't take any more of this cold weather!!!!! I'm chilled to the bone and I'm going to jump in my car any minute now and drive south 'til I run out of gas and money! Which won't, actually, take that long.

I had 12/20 eggs that went into lockdown hatch. Since then one little EE has died but everyone else seems ridiculously healthy! I had 3 egg donors

2 local and one shipped. I got 3 chicks from the eggs shipped to me by KatyTheChickenLady in Idaho. Shipped eggs first!

I also got some beautiful local eggs from evonne. I was really hoping that I'd get one of the EE/Leghorn chicks but no dice. I will have to try again. From her eggs I had 4 hatch but, sadly, the dark chipmunky EE died last nite. Not sure why.

Lastly, I also got local eggs from my good friend, chickfrmlv. I'm not real sure what her roo is ... he's big and buff colored. I think she has a Buff Orp hen, and a red sex-link + more. We hatched 5/6 of her eggs put into lockdown. I will post pics of a few of hers now but I am missing a pic of the last one hatched. Also I don't know the breeds of most of her birds. I will try to get more pics of the others soon.

These were from her banty frizzle cochin roos babies ... don't really know who the father is.

(JK - it is adorable) Sometimes I wish they would stay so little and itty bitty.

Sunny n Flowers I am with you! I want to bring all the outdoor animals inside the house JUST so I do not have to go back into the cold and wind.

Great Pictures Vegaschick. The last one even made me go Ahhhh. and I'm a guy, guys do not go Ahhhh over fuzzy chicks.
Sunnydawn, you made me laugh with that trip south comment. I did my very best to scrounge up some sunshine. But as you can see there was not much to be found.
As for coming up with the answers. I have always been told by my mother that we are gifted with a creative mind. and that not everyone else is. It really is true but people will also just pretend cause it is easier to just ask us to fix it rather than figure it out for themselves. I sort of set some rules a long time ago. If I have to figure out how to get the BBQ running. someone else does the cooking. It is amazing how much creativity others find in themselves when they know those are going to be the rules. By the way when you get to needing to hatch eggs. I have at least one really good incubator design and the materials to make another just like it. not real pretty but it runs real smooth and steady. makes some noise but nothing horrible. Your sweetheart could build a wood box around it and make it look like an end table in your living room!!!

VegasChick.... Cuteness overload! You've got to submit that last picture to BYC for the weekly posting.

SunnyDawn & Horsefeatherz... The blue Orps are stunning!

Can hardly wait to see them mature. Good cross... Got eggs?

This weekend in the south the Las Vegas Valley Urban Chicken Keepers are hosting a coop tour of five locations in the LV valley. I want to see what kind of hot-weather coop designs they've got before building my own. Husby -- who knows nada about chickens -- is coming along.... Such a good sport! (Well, heck, it is half his backyard, too.... This is an instance where getting his input is going to maximize the outcome... I just hope he doesn't want to paint the thing black, the default color of men, or insist on all black chickens).

Have a great Easter Weekend everyone!
