Happy Easter, My Nephew returned from Iraq Yesterday. Probably will be spending the day visiting him at least for a while. I am sure he wants to be able to just relax and settle in some though. He is something more like a son and really good friend to me. Kim and I pretty much raised him from the age of 14. I bought him his first BB gun when he was 10 and taught him how to shoot it. We played paint ball together and I helped him buy his first Quad and Truck as he grew up. He was living with us When suddenly at age 18 came home and announced he had joined the Army. He spent 4 years active duty then came back home and spent another 5 years in the reserves. During that time he joined the police Academy and has been a police officer now for about 12 years. He got married has a very sweet wife that I am close to and they have two very darling children. three or four years ago he decided to reenlist in the Guard and that is how he ended up being deployed a year ago. He earned a Bronze Star while over there. I am extremely proud of him. But best of all is that he is back home and safe. Lots of catching up to do. I took this week off work so that we can get together, get things caught up around his house and basically just reconnect. It is a very very good day.
Husband and I spent Easter weekend together....picking the weeds out of the side yard (we have a VERY stringent HOA and everybody got nasty-grams to stay on top of their yardwork). It wasn't so bad, though, as we discussed Easter traditions in our household while growing up. Several neighborhood families were out strolling (nice to have a break from our week-long wind tunnel) and we exchanged quite a few pleasantries. My best line was "Yeah, somebody told me we're having an Easter Egg Hunt, but weirdly all I'm finding is weeds..."
got my fantastic Black Orpington eggs today so am hoping for a good hatch (at least one cockerel and 3 pullets would make me giddy - might not be able to speak if more should bless me by hatching). They are from BamaChicken's stock and I just love her birds heavy wide fluffy bodies.
Turned my taxes in to the CPA finally, now I can play more without feeling so bad (ok, trying to feel bad
) Every year I say I will get better and seem to get worse - gosh this is april, I am already behind this year.
HorseFeatherz good luck with your hatch! I got my welsummers in today and I couldn't resist a couple more EEs with them. I'm going to run out of room fast if I don't knock this off! I have 9 more coming before I'm done for the season, 7 Ameraucanas and 2 Delawares. I hope I can resist any more!
