That's the problem with Reno weather. You don't get a spring. It goes from freezing to boiling hot. Makes planting a garden a challenge for sure. For about 20 minutes it was blizzard conditions here yesterday!

OK Penturner, we're counting on you now! Any more cold weather and you'll hear from us!

We had a pretty good snow going on for a while. The windshields on cars where covered in snow as I walked to work this morning also. That was at 4 a.m. Still had a bit of rain going this morning and a few snow flakes at times. Just drab weather.

My Brookstone instant weather forecaster on the fridge has gone all wonky. The digitals are showing we are having extreme wind, lightning and snow, but the temp is 107!

Las Vegas shows a mix of snow and rain except and it's only 68.... Boulder City, however, is just partly cloudy, windy and 66.....which, considering I just drove back home from there seems accurate.

(It is overcast and 70 in Henderson, btw.... We are NOT having a hail storm in 107-degree weather...yet! (One never knows with the non-vanilla weather we have here)

I think I'll take a nap and hopefully the weather dept. will straighten out what's out there.... I don't really care at the moment.... zzzzzz

10 minutes later:

I guess the Brookstone Weather Station has straightened itself out as now my fridge is saying we're 67 degrees, windy and partly cloudy.... which is what it is! (Tah-Dah!)

I guess the big winds yesterday really did a number on the satellite relay tower or something.... Kinda surreal.....

I know it doesn't compete with snow but, man! we've had a ton of very windy days, weeks, months! I don't remember it ever being really windy for quite so long before. Is it just me? I personally haven't minded cuz it keeps the weather nice and cool but the hens ...? They HATE it. They are protesting! Like I could do something about it. Chickens!

Penturner, congrats on the new chickie. Here's hoping for more to come! Beautiful pens BTW! I feel like a fool. I just realized what your avatar is. Yeah, blind and clueless.

...and just for the record, I'm not blond, just oblivious I guess.

Just candled my eggs tonight. I removed 6 from the 28 I started with. 2 blood rings and 4 infertile. So sad. My Delaware eggs I wished and waited for had one of each so no Dellies for me...yet.

On the other hand, I can hardly wait for the 22nd. Yes, of course that is when they're supposed to hatch, but, more importantly, there will only be another 11 days of school at that point. I am a substitute teacher doing a long term sub job for a friend and remembering daily why I like subbing...and don't really want to be a teacher full-time.

We are getting closer to a closing date (we'll be in our new home by end of this month) and getting excited about talking to the neighbors re: hens. I saw an adorable white chicken coop somewhere on this site and need to find it again and ask for plans. I'll more than likely be looking to buy 2 hens if the neighbors don't object and will be more than likely buying then from some Nevadans on this forum. This all hinges, of course, on the neighbors. At this point of relocating, everything hinges on something and it is easy to put my cart before my horse. (I've done that in the past too!) Thanks for all your feedback. Diane

Good luck Diane! What part of Nevada are you relocating to? Is the coop you are looking for the one on BYC's home page? I love that one too. It is adorable! (OK don't you men give me a hard time about wanting a coop that's also adorable).

vegaschick I feel for ya! The only reason the snow is bothering me so much is because I can't leave my tomato plants out yet but the wind is just as bad for them.

I hate strong winds. We've had a few of them this season but not for as long as you're having to deal with! Hope it eases up soon! My chickens hate the wind even more than the snow too. Poor things.

we are going to be near tropical and commerce - a real neighborhood. But . . . we will have RV parking on one side and another 15 ft on thed other side so we aren't on top on each other side/by/side so I have high hopes. If I'm wrong, oh well, I will know where to go for fresh eggs (here!). We sold a mini farm in wisc and hit the road to be snow birds, with a summer place in Hayward WI. After 2 years I've had enough so I'm forcing the hubby to settle here because we are closer to LA where our grandchildren are. I saw the coop I think by clicking on people's pictures/websites who are here at BWC. It had flowers on the roof too, very cute. As far as men are concerned, my husband is usually drawn to things that are "cute as a bug's ear". Lucky me. diane
