Daniel I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad!!! I'm sending out wishes for a speedy recovery!!! Your house is no less hectic than ours was before the kids moved out (and is again every time they visit). Tell your wife I don't normally dress up to pick up worms and hardware. Just left the doctor's office (although I think I mentioned that to her). I really enjoyed meeting the rest of your family, especially your wife, Kim. She's a sweetie!
Yeah, so far so good! Over 50 and I can still read without stressing too badly. For real close work I do use a real light duty pair of reading glasses now though. The Doc says my vision is great for someone my age. It's nice that some things are still working! Some days I feel like everything is falling apart at once! We'll see next spring if my eyes are up to the task.
SparksNV I tried to get an answer to this but it seems scientists disagree on this point. Of all the birds chickens seem to have less of a sense of smell than many others but the olfactory system is in place and does function. They just aren't sure to what degree. One thing they do agree on (as Penturner and Peep_Show pointed out) is that chickens seem to rely on their eyes and ears much more than their nostrils. There is some great research (along the line that Peep_Show suggested, except they read the electrical impulses that the brain registers at the same time) on this web-site... http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/07/080716111421.htm
Welcome to the Nevada thread daegorn!
Boy when I go back to the first page and read how many Nevada chicken folks we have here on this thread it's hard to believe I felt like the only crazed chicken nut in Nevada just a year ago! So happy we have all of you folks to talk to!
Yay! I love meeting new SOUTHERN NV chicken people...well, and Northern, but, let's face it, it's a lot harder to swap chickens/eggs and stuff. So
's NV thread daegorn & neilgal.
daegorn - Aww, Puhrump's not that bad, we pretty much all have crappy soil and hellish heat, so your in good company. Do you wants some roos? I have some 14 wk old boys that I would be happy to get rid of - 1 Black Copper Marans, and 2 BCM X Cuckoo Marans. BTW, I checked out your website and WOW!!! Great photography!
neilgal - What part of Vegas? I'm in the Whitney township not far from Boulder Station. What types of chickens do you have?
HI Pahrump -
I have black copper franch marans and amerucanas - I will have chicks in the spring, so if you don't find anything, drop me a note (Las Vegas) - sadly my amerucana roo was coyote dinner a few weeks ago, but I have a pullet or two you might like (all black), very blue green eggs, not olive or too pale. The baby marans are $10 straight run, price gets higher as they become male or female - up to $20 and $40 respectively. Amerucana pullets are $10.
