Nevadans?

ah! alright its happened.

this morning...well, ten minutes ago, pearl started crowing. i ran outside because i thought it was the new girl...and saw pearl belting out the crows at the top of her lungs. it was really pretty. not even wimpy or anything.. i was really proud, then really sad because now shes really gotta go. im hoping you guys will come back from vacation today and let me know if youre interested in pearl and darla. i would really like them to go to one of you because i trust that you guys know how to care for them. but if no takers by the time i get off work, they HAVE to go on craigslist. my neighbors are gonna have a cow

Try PMing her. She's more likely to see that and respond. Yes we have had a busy but fun weekend! Went to the Rib Fest and YUUUUMM! The last two years we were a little disappointed with our choices but this year! De-lish!

Aubrey, sorry your chickens are not integrating well. It is easier to add 2 new chickens at the same time rather than to try and insert a single bird. I've only tried introducing a single bird once, and it was one of Genny's Blue Orp crosses and she shocked me by fitting in immediately with no problems of any kind!

Good luck on finding a couple of good white hens for your flock. I have some Delawares that are just starting to lay that have been very friendly and cute too.

They are not pure white though. They have some black tail feathers and some black spotting/ticking on the hackle feathers. You might try looking for some Dels.

yeah im pretty sure that once i find another hen it will be much easier introducing the two. i learned that with the silkie. plus im sure that once darla and pearl are gone, and the introductions are two on two instead of one on four itll help as well. at least this time around i know to expect some being picked on.

wow yes, i never heard of delawares. they are really very pretty. its just kind of hard to find a single hen at a certain age of the breed you want in this town. you wouldnt be interested in selling one of your birds, would you?

Yeah, I'd consider it. I have more projects planned for spring and I've been struggling because I know I'm almost at maximum capacity now.

I just kept hoping I would win the lottery so I could move off my tiny city lot and then I wouldn't have to make these tough decisions. This actually helps me in the long run. 3 months ago I planned on selling one of the Dels and one of my EEs but they got older and they are all sooo sweet... well you know how that goes! I would feel better if you lined up another pullet first and then you can introduce them together.

The Dels are 20 weeks old right now and one has just started laying so I'm sure the other 2 will be laying any day now. 1 of the gals is huge and 1 is pretty small (for a Del) so if you get a pullet close to the same age you can pick whichever one is close in size to avoid problems. Dels are awfully friendly (but will also be assertive/not wimpy) so I doubt you will have problems from them.

I know how you feel about your "Pearl". I have 2 roos right now, in the middle of town, and I'm just holding my breath hoping the neighbors don't complain! I've talked to the ones on either side and they are not upset but the folks behind me may be a different matter. C'mon Lotto!!!

Gosh well I think that might just work out because I've decided to keep my new orp separated from the others until pearl and Darla are gone and until she has another pullet to be introduced with! She's 18 weeks and kind of big but sweeter than all my girls put together. I have been actively trolling cl for a hen her age to introduce her with but no luck. Please think about it and let me know... I'm more than interested! Shed go to a good home.. Heater and a/c in the coop, lol

Hey, Aubrey. If Sunny wants to keep her dels i have some California whites that are the biggest, sweetest hens ever and they look just like a leghorn. I know how sunny feels about the delawares, i love mine. ^^ I have about a dozen of these girls, and i offered another one to someone on here, hmm. But they used to be my dads and he doesnt want them anymore. Are you getting rid of darla agian? If nevadaron (i think he wanted her?) doesnt take her, im still open. But i have my own white fluff silkie hen crowing now.

I might keep him, but im not sure.
But here's one of the Cali whites.

Horsefeatherz, when youre on again, i think the schedule is clearer for this week, so we can pick up the roo sometime thats good for you.

Heater and AC in the coop! Seriously? They will be completely spoiled.

That is perfect that your other pullet is 18 weeks! I always try to find ones within 3 weeks of each other to introduce together. Should we put them together and see how they react? My Dels are used to my orps. In fact my dominant hen is a BO so the Del may just let yours assume a dominant role because of it. We'll just have to see.

Okay so I've written this three times now and my phone keeps screwing up so this better work!

Lacy you are a sweetheart. I'm interested in the del because I think their markings are gorgeous. But if it doesn't work out then I am more than interested in purchasing one of your dads hens. Thank you! And thanks for the offer on Darla, but the reason I'm giving her away is because I want pearl to have one of his girls with him when he goes to his new home, you know, to help make the transition easier...

Yeah sunny their coop is built into our mudroom so they get whatever temps we have in the house. I'm sure they aren't complaining...
smile.png

also I would love for them to meet. I don't think it matters if it's my place or yours, since my new girl is not used to her new home anyhow. Whenever you're ready you can just pm me and we can set something up. I'm so excited! Also, I am willing to pay whatever you think is fair...

That totally makes sense Aubrey. lol i didnt think of that. And you could take both del and cali, theyre free for the people on here. Sunny!! Im so sorry if i offended you, i wasnt thinking this morning. I wasnt trying to butt in or anything.

Do any of you want a white frizzle roo?

No problem, I wasn't offended. Part of me wants to keep every single one of them, even though I know I can't, and I know that fact was showing in my post.

I have the best flock dynamics right now and I don't just want to keep the ones I have, I want even more! I'm getting greedy I guess. As long as I keep my awesome dominant hen, Bertha, things should stay as calm as they are now and I want to start a small breeding program and that covers the Ams only, no Dels. They are for eggs only.

The Northern Nevada Poultry Fanciers Association is having a HUGE garage sale this Saturday 9/11 from 8AM to 2PM at 2021 Watt ST, right near Virginia Lake off Lakeside Drive. The garage sale will help to fund the annual 4H/NNPFA poultry show in November. With the current economy the Livestock Event Center is very expensive to rent for the day of the show. This has been a very successful poultry show in the past. We were not able to afford a show last year. So we really want to have a great show for everyone who wants to show their birds this year. We have a fantastic amount of stuff for sale, everything you can think of...poultry items, clothing, household, electronics, tools, decor...we have two members whose garages are currently packed with stuff for this sale...no junk! You might even find a chicken or 2 (or more!) for sale as well. You will certainly find lots of poultry people to talk to.

This Saturday...8AM-2PM ....2021 Watt St, Reno
