Nevadans?

Thank you Genny! I got the nicest complements yesterday about the girls. A friend of a friend came over to help me clip wings (Verde flew up onto a 5' fence) and he couldn't get over how good looking they are! He kept saying how pretty they are! I was admiring all 3 of my EE crosses - their beards and muffs are getting really full - I'll try to take some photos.

Another update - Verde squatted yesterday! So I have 3 squatters!

Any suggestions on the bale of straw? Next time, I'll buy hay.

3000-4000 worms - wow! that's alot!

Have a great day!

Genny - here's your Orp/EEs:

Meringue (hatched 5/19) - her beard/muff are actually more pronounced than what is shown in this photo.

aren't they beautiful!?

I got my second egg today! Same coloring as the first so I'm thinking it's from the same hen. We put a golf ball in one of the nests so she would know to lay there (she layed the first on the ground in the run), and it must have hit the golf ball and cracked a little bit. I opened it up and it had a beautiful, almost orange yolk! I fried it up and it tasted so good. I keep reading articles that say there's no difference between store eggs and home raised, but after tasting mine I think that's a crock! Am I crazy not wanting to crack open my first egg? I keep opening up the carton I have it in in the fridge and looking at it! My friends got a kick out of it. Here's a pic of the second one and the yolk!

Horsefeatherz, I got a kick out of your video of your rooster. I'm surprised it took him so long. Mine was born June 21st and started crowing a few weeks ago. I get a kick out of it, but not so fond of how rough he sometimes is with the girls. I don't need chicks so I'm not so eager to put up with him. I just can't seem to get rid of him. Anyone looking for a big, shy EE rooster in the LV area? He's free!

I went out to the pen today to check for eggs and this is what I found...

We got this rooster this weekend courtesy of briteday and he really has not acclimated to the girls yet so he hangs out in the temp coop area. We named him Lyle.

(DH asked me to edit it and tell you about the eggs Lyle is sitting on if you cannot see them clear enough in the picture.)
