Knemeyer I can't imagine that someone can't taste the difference between store bought eggs and fresh, free range eggs!!! And no, it is not silly that you don't want to eat the first egg! I go through that all the time, though it does get easier with time. Blow it out and save the shell.

Hi eglyntine thank you for the great tip with the bag balm it is working great and I love watching them after they tried to peck themselves and end up with a mouthful wiping it on the ground. Ha! I am also trying to up the protein in their diet.

The coop is a prefab from hayneedle.com but we ended up adding some upgrades like extra roost bar, outside run and hinging the roof panels for easier access.

As a refuge from the daily grind, I'll be happy when I can come on to BYC and not have to look at Harry Reid or Sharon Angle's faces!

Englyntine, when you get a chance, I'd love to see some pictures of your worm/compost arrangement.

Hello All,

So, to date, none of the birds we got in early-mid July have produced anything. We brought in a couple of "ringers" and have been getting eggs from them. This might be a dumb question, but I'm not an expert. I've attached some pictures of the bird I got from Genny and am curious if she is really a she. Any thoughts? I suppose they will all produce in good time, but this one's colors and feathers are so much different from the others, I wasn't sure.

Well, he's really nice and doesn't make a sound, so far. I love the way he looks, darn.

I'm glad I finally asked!
