Nevadans?

Ron, here is a pic of the box. I bought it at Walmart in Spanish Springs for about $8 (?I think?) in the pet department. It is supposed to be temperature sensitive but it doesn't say at what temp it will turn on. I just put it in my coop yesterday. It did not get below 36 degrees today but tomorrow it is supposed to be in the 20's. I'll let you know how it works!

Well, since you have 10 in the same size coop, I think I will make the leap and put the word out there that I am looking to buy 2 hens - an EE that lays a blue egg and a Copper Maran or other hen that lays a dark chocolate brown egg! Can anyone help?

Aubreynoramarie, you might try Genny (HorsefeathersNV) I bought 5 blue hens (3 are Orp/Del crosses, 2 Orp/EE crosses) from her. The Orp/Dels have splashes of gold on them but they are really pretty and very healthy!

on that note, would anybody be interested in a free buff orp? I got her from the woman on mt rose hwy. She's not laying yet, but maybe within the next month or so she will. She's pretty timid and gets picked on by all my girls. She also poops on my shoes everytime I pick her up. That being said she should be a good layer and won't be a flock bully.

Let me know if anyone is interested, I can deliver within reason

I'm so excited, one of my Barred Rocks laid their first egg today! It's so light brown, it's almost pink. My son said one of the Cuckoo Marans started squatting so I'm thinking in a week or two I should get some chocolate eggs!

I have a question now that it's getting cold, especially in the evenings. Do you change up the food for the winter? I'm giving them laying pellets, oyster shells and some crushed egg shells and various leftovers/scraps. Should I be giving them cracked corn? I read here that their bodies heat up processing it so would it be a good addition maybe in the early evenings?

Thanks!

Cracked corn is a treat that I give sparingly. And yes, I give it more often during cold months. Right now they are eating me out of house and home!
