OK he has to wait til the next hatch then. My granddaughters are now totally enthralled with them and I already told them they can come see their progress as they grow. I think this time we need a deposit so we know he is serious.
I don't know which hen lays which egg for sure either. I need to mark their vents so I can tell who laid what.
All of our hens have been laying non stop thru the winter. We do bring them in during the worst weather though and at best it looks like Seramas only lay once every 2 days. We have been boiling the eggs and feeding them back to the birds though because I don't like the idea that they didn't take a break.
We are getting about 6 eggs per day right now with more hens coming online all the time. I expect to have 16 hens laying by spring.
So all this time i thought Midge (the beautiful blue we got from genny) has been laying with the rest of the girls even though i havent actually seen her in the box. Genny told me she'd probobly lay a light brown egg since thats what her sisters lay. i figured i was getting four eggs a day because one girl was taking a break everyday.
well i was wrong.
I saw Midge in the nestbox for the first time today and i let her be. I didnt check the box for a few hours since all of the other girls were going in and out of it all day long. Well i just got home and checked. two brown eggs-as usual. one blue/green egg- as usual...and one OLIVE EGG??? Midge must be an olive egger!!
