I can ship them down to you

Or if you want I could send you hatching eggs if that would be more desirable. When we get our tax refund next week we are going to start building out the separate coops for each of the breeds we're doing this year so hopefully by the middle of next month everyone will be separated out and we can get the girls started on producing their specific breeds. We are hoping to be able to produce Black Australorps, Golden Laced Wyandottes, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Buff Orpingtons, Black Stars (sex-links) and White-Crested Black Polish. I am so excited, it has to be one of the worst "hurry up and wait" projects I have done in a while. *LOL*

Sunny, have you checked out Hodges Farms? I was looking at their Blue Laced Red Wyandottes but they also have French BCM

They have some really beautiful stock but I want to wait on adding anything else to mine atm until I get good and established at reproducing what I already have.

It is very hard for me to put it off but I just do not have the room right now.

GENNY, I forgot to add- what an amazing dog you have to take down a cougar!

sunny what a cute pic! i wish my chicks were like that when i got them, lol. they just ran in fear from me.

NIKKI i still may be interested in a couple polish this spring. I dont know though, i think i have enough dark colored girls, if i do get a polish i might want a golden laced or something.

Thanks so much for the compliments on Oscar. As I said before, I fell in love with him the minute I saw him and seriously everyday I am more and more enamored.

About the worm info, I sent that off to you in a PM. Let me know if you need anything else or if you have any questions, etc. I am going to be upgrading the worm palace in the next few weeks. With this awesome weather we've been having the ground is a lot softer and easier to dig through and that big freezer I have on my porch needs to get into the ground before the ground dries up. The bigger space should quadruple my population.

Thank you! Yes they all run until they figure out you're the treat giver!

That's why I was so shocked that they ran toward her face and plopped right down! I mean they settle down after awhile when I hold them but it takes a few minutes.
hmm.png
Oh well when they are old enough for treats they will adore me.

Genny I have one of those loud peepers too. She will yell and yell until I come in (just to be sure) cause she wants more "pristine food". It doesn't matter that there is a huge pile of food around the feed dish, that they have just scratched out, she wants the feeder filled NOW!

What a fantastic picture to give her as she gets older.

aubreynoramarie Thanks, he sure has earned himself some extra lovin'

I do not know if any of you have read these articles - but if you are raising chickens, breeding for meat or eggs - these are fanastic articles (chapter 1 thru 3) on some tracking that was done to improve the Buckeye breed. One of the reasons I am now changing my feed from 20% to 30% (recommended for heritage birds who are allowed free range)

You can download the PDF to your computer - well worth the cost - free

If you wish to have them for future reference.

Does anyone have a bator for sale or "rent"? I've got it in my head that I want two showgirls and I think the only way I'm going to be able to acheive that is by buying eggs and raising six or seven and keepin the nicest two. What do you guys think? My birthdays comming up and this is what I am going to ask mark for

hopefully by the time we buy our house I will have thee prefer flock

Hey Sunny if you check out that link that Genny left, they have a list of Heritage Breeders, both a public one and a private one for members only. I don't know for sure if it's free or not to become a member.

Public Breeder's List

I didn't see any Ameraucana's in the public list but they do list it as a Heritage Breed so there might be someone in the private list...

Thanks Ron! I found a gal who has blue ams now but her girls aren't laying. As soon as they start laying she is going to let me pick up some eggs. Between her and Pips and Peeps I should be set for spring.

Aubrey I don't have an extra bator but you can build a temporary one pretty easily from a styrofoam cooler.

That's funny you should suggest that cause I spent an hour photoshopping it so that I can frame it for her folks. What d'ya think?

Wow, a styrofoam cooler? Really? Do you know how that works or what I would have to do? That would be really awesome since I only plan on doing this once and it seems kind of wasteful moneywise to spend all that cash on a bator.

Do you know if it's effective?
