This is one of my specialties. I posted info on your thread.

I also threw in my two cents worth on your other thread. I've done a lot of research on this subject!

It's so exciting to see so many folks in this area interested in xeric landscaping! I hadn't been able to find a whole lot of folks that were interested before.

Sorry I have been so quiet lately, I ordered a bunch of chicken books and when I am not busting my butt to get the house ready for my IL's coming to stay with us this coming weekend I have been reading them. My DH is making fun of me. "You have the entire internet at your finger tips and you go out and buy books." I told him at least this way I do not have to sit in this terribly uncomfortable chair in front of the computer and I do not have to worry about going back the next day to pick up where I left off and the internet is down or the whole website is gone.

I have also been trying to get the yard, etc. ready for the seeds and plants Johnny's sent off to me this week. I actually had to get the rototiller out of the back of the shed and clean it off. What a chore that was. heh

I also made a trip down to the Wonderbread and Hostess shop and went wild buying up bread for treats for the birds. I am their new favourite person. Not that I was not before but now I am finally "Momma". They let me pat, pick them up, snuggle, you name it now. Not just one or two but all of them now and only after 2 days of hand feeding them. Hortense (One of my BR laying hens) has even decided she wants to follow me EVERYWHERE and I woke up this morning with her snuggled into the corner of my bedroom door waiting for me to wake up. She has figured out how to work the doggie door and we are having to teach her that it is not for her. But I finally understand why ppl buy diapers for these ladies. When you have one that this attached to you, it totally breaks your heart to not let her hang out with you. Even if it in the house.

Tomorrow is going to be a big day for my kitties. They get taken down to the Humane Society tomorrow. I have to have them down there btwn 7 and 8am. They are so going to hate me when this is over with but DH has made it quite clear that we "Ain't birthin no baby kittens". hehe

I went out to check on the worms yesterday (it has been a few weeks) and O M G.... tons and tons of babies. I am soooo giddy. The girls are going to LOVE fresh worms this spring.

Well I am glad to see everyone is keeping themselves busy, after the IL's are gone this weekend I should be back on more.

But I am always lurking.

It's sure nice when folks check in. Where are the rest of the Nevada folks? Seems we've been making do with just a few folks here lately. Stop by and give us a wave now and then.

I took your advice Eglyntine. I made my own lizard graphic from a pic. This is one of the classic "blue belly" or western fence lizards you see all over California.

I'd prefer the smaller version for bottom of posts etc (just gave you the big version so you could mess around with the pic easier) and I wish I knew how to make him crawl across the page but I don't. Anyway maybe you could see what you could do with him after things settle down for you and you aren't so busy.

How do i not get discouraged?
I did a day 8 candle today on ALL 30 eggs, and after weeding through, less than half have made the first cut. Most of the eggs were not even fertile (and this was almost 100% of the e-bay eggs), three had bloodrings, one had an underdeveloper, so im guessing an early quitter, and one i think i may have killed!

it totally looked fine when i cracked it open (idk, it honetly looked small to me but what the hell do i know??). im sad

if i lose this many during the second cut, i will have no babies at all for my hatch. i wanted 30 eggs because i want two showgirl hens and i wanted a good chance of getting them. Its not really looking very good now. lol im gonna post this in the egg hatching thread and try to get some encouragement.

Shipped eggs can be really difficult to incubate and hatch - so many things happen once the box leaves the breeders hands - boxes are dropped, left in the cold, stuck by a heater, thrown, shaken and stirred

Do not give up. Just know it is an adventure, a bit up hill, but still an adventure

And worth it to get the bloodlines you want.
