So any that hatch out you've gotta name one "Kitty"

Sometimes hatches happen as late as Day 23-25 if there's a lot of fluctuation in the bator. Some are just slow. Don't give up hope yet. Have you tried peeping at the eggs? Do it loud and then listen. I've had a peeps and then hours before a pip. No idea what they're waiting for....

LOL i guess so, huh?

no i hjave not tried "peeping" at them haha. I have tried tapping on the windows, i have also had a long encouraging talk with them. IM OFF TO PEEP!

Ron,

Usually I get the vibe for only one race. Sometimes going from door to buffet I'll cruise through the sports book and look at the totes. VERY rarely do I stop to bet. Yeah, I'd love to pick the exact two or three in a race.... I can get the winner usually right on that one race, but inevitably my Place and Show get caterwonky. Since living here (LV area) the gambling urge is just about nil. Having had several hobbies that were akin to throwing money in a hole, I tend to watch the nickels and dimes. But once in a while, yeah, it's fun to hang the hope. (My husband is a licensed gambling addiction counselor. I would prefer not to be a footnote in any of his presentations!)

(and I may have egg on my face come May, but right now my Derby vibe is on a horse named Uncle Mo)

I can laugh today but a few days ago when trying to drive in it I wasn't laughing at all.

SparksNV- I bet you are one proud mama right about now! Congrats to Taylor, and much luck with making the volleyball team! How has middle school been for you guys? I've got a 5th grader that will be heading off to Swope in a year and a half and I'm very nervous for her...it just seems like there is exposure to so much *ick* at that age! I dread the attitude that everyone warns me will overtake my sweet little girl!

Aubrey-I totally agree with everyone else. Your avatar is adorable! I'm a punk girl at heart, but I've been repressed in the expression of my funkiness due to circumstance...I had my daughter at 17 and really felt the need to portray the conservative look to keep from getting stereotyped as a crappy teen-mom. Now that I'm in my late twenties and have proven my abilities as a parent, I've got a job that would frown on any sort of alternative appearance (so I just hide my tattoos, lol). I'm still crossing my fingers for a 4 chick hatch for you! Pip babies, pip!

Sunny- I'm sure it's been posted before, but what kinds of chicks are you hatching right now? With all these super cute babies everywhere I think I've talked my hubby into building coop #2. Chicken math is brutal! Started last year with 4, and then they've been so fun that 8 sounded like a good number...now I want another coop which means 12 should be doable. Oh my goodness, this is a sickness!
PS, thanks for the compliment on my avatar. Niko is pretty stinking cute (not that I'm biased at all, lol). He's such a good boy, too. I'm a lucky momma!

I wanted to ask if any of you participate in any local CSAs for the summer. I think I'm going to start a raised bed garden this year, but am worried that I might not get much of a first harvest...I'm going to be starting from scratch and I'm not terribly knowledgeable about gardening. As a back up I'd like to join a CSA and it seems there are several to choose from. Great Basin CSA vs Rise and Shine vs Custom Gardens. Does anyone have first hand experience with any of these farms? I'd love to hear personal experiences.

Happy Monday. Hope everyone gets to enjoy the long weekend!

Very stinkin' cute!!! He looks a lot like my youngest did at that age and I, of course, am very biased.

I'm hatching out mostly EEs. Crosses from my black ameraucana rooster and my black and wheaten ameraucana hens and my EE hens (about evenly split between the three) I also have a couple of EEs from the roo and my brown egg laying hens. They most likely will lay a green egg and all the others should lay a blue (with a slight minty hue) to a bluish green egg. Well the pullets anyway.

Nice! I'll be watching that one...

Got a ping vibe on Cal Nation, too. The last time I had a "ping" it was for First Dude who then ended up not running in the Derby.

He came back for the Belmont and Preakness and did well all things considered.

Uncle Mo, though, has a Barbaro/win-like vibe (for the Derby, that is). When it came time for watching Barbaro's ill-fated race, I felt sicky-icky and didn't want to bet. Cried watching that race. Brought back memories of watching Ruffian, which was really traumatic for a teenage girl horse fan.
